Issue: Communication tactics
Subissue: Frequent or repeated calls
Consumer Complaint: I find it offensive that someone from AMEX debt collection feels it appropriate to call me regarding contacting someone with the same last name. They called asking about their need to urgently contact my brother. They never said they were debt collectors. I never told them it was my brother ( who I have no contact with ). AMEX had no permission to research and find my phone number through its internal records or running a credit report on me. I never gave AMEX permission to access my records and use them for their debt collection agents. This is highly offensive and most likely a violation of Federal law. They have no rights to let others know you have a debt collection issue with a customer. I tried calling them back to protest, no live person. I called their executive offices, they refused to transfer. The email to send complaints is not valid. I did email their CEO.

Consumer Complaint: This is my second CFPB complaint regarding this issue. I opened an AmEx gold card on XX/XX/2021 with a {$250.00} restaurant credit promo ( which I received ) and XXXX membership rewards points after {$4000.00} spend. It has been nearly six months since I reached the spend and have yet to receive my points. I have called and messaged several times, each time being told to wait an additional XXXX weeks for the points to post. The response to my last CFPB complaint regarding this indicated I would receive separate communication which has not happened.

Consumer Complaint: Background I had an American Express Gold Card that I signed up in XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX. Within a few months of signing up, I kept being bombarded with offers to upgrade to the Platinum Card for an extra XXXX points and {$150.00} statement credit. I made the move to upgrade my card in XXXX XXXX XXXX which is when this mess started. Amex uses vague language that says the reserve the right to take back any promotional offer if the card is downgraded within 12 months. It is not made clear which 12 months is specified. From what I understood of the rules, I could downgrade my card after 12 months of paid membership, whereas they define it as 12 months of receiving a promotional offer. This is never made clear to the consumer, and is buried in vague language on purpose to deceive the customer. Timeline XXXX : Upgraded to the Platinum Card from the American Express Gold card after months of being bombarded with ads to upgrade to the Platinum Card from the Gold card. I was looking for a card with lounge access and is the primary reason I chose to upgrade to the Platinum card. Few things were not explained to me in the offer : * It was not explained in detail that promotional points would be taken back if I downgraded the card within one year. The terms only says that Amex reserved the right to do so, not that it will. * It was not explained by Amex representatives that there another product, the XXXX XXXX Amex Platinum Card, that repays the annual fee. If I had known of this option, I would have never signed up for this promotional offer. XXXX : I requested a downgrade from the Platinum Card to the Gold since my year of paid membership was done. It was never explained to be that the promotional points would be taken back at this point. XXXX : I found out about the XXXX XXXX Platinum card, and singed up for this one instead. As a consumer, would I pay for a service that I can get for free? For the other platinum card, there were still benefits I wanted to use that I had already paid for via the annual fee for the year, so I waited until my year was up before canceling. XXXX : American Express took back the promotional offer of XXXX points and {$150.00} statement credit.

Consumer Complaint: My name is XXXX XXXX, and I am sending this request myself to address the inaccuracies on my Credit Reports. I have been patiently waiting on their response to the written requests I sent. However, any modes of response or coordination were not taken on their end. They have not complied with the Fair Credit Reporting Act, 15 USC Sections 1681i within the time allowed by law and continued reporting as unverified information which now, given all my attempts to address it directly with the creditor, as willful negligence and non-compliance with federal statutes.
