Issue: Incorrect information on your report

Subissue: Account status incorrect

Consumer Complaint: This complaint is in regards to my previous complaint to CFPB ( complaint # XXXX ). American Express says they reported my account as delinquent past 30 days, which is inaccurate. I closed my account with American Express, and I had it paid off when I closed it. Then, American Express says that they reported my account accurately to the credit reporting bureaus as delinquent, when, in fact they made adjustments and just recently sent me a refund credit in the mail via check in the amount of {$43.00}. Now, I expect American Express to fix their reports to the credit bureaus from delinquent to paid on time and card closed. American Express would not have issued me a credit refund check of {$43.00}, if the account was not paid off. I have not made any additional payments to American Express, which indicates that they card was paid off at the time of closing. It further appears that I actually had overpaid my balance at the time of closing, or American Express would not have issued this {$43.00} refund check. Please have American Express fix their reporting to the credit bureaus as non-delinquent, and then this matter will be resolved once and for all. Thank you.

Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed

Subissue: Debt is not yours

Consumer Complaint: I am writing to file a complaint against XXXX XXXX ( debt collector ), P.A, Attorney for Plaintiff, American Express National Bank in conspiracy with American Express National Bank witness for what appears to be perjury by affidavit and unfair and misleading debt collection practices. On XX/XX/2023, I received notice from your company regarding an alleged debt of {$990.00} that I allegedly owe to American Express National Bank. The notice included an affidavit signed by Assistant Custodian or Records for American Express National Bank, XXXX XXXX identified as AFFIDAVIT OF INDEBTEDNESS dated XX/XX/2023, which I believe contains false statements. Specifically, the affidavit states that " After giving Defendant credit for all payments made, if any, the amount justly due and owing as of XX/XX/2023 is {$990.00} '' ( Exhibit B ). These statements are untrue and have been made with the intention of deceiving me into paying a debt that I do not owe as expressed by supporting statement with closing date XX/XX/2023 ( exhibit A ). This constitutes perjury by affidavit, which is a serious offense under the law. Furthermore, The I have attached a formal NOTICE OF DISPUTE AND VERIFICATION OF DEBT REQUEST NOTICE OF REQUEST FOR ACKNOWLEDGMENT NOTICE OF REQUEST FOR RELIEF for futher clarification of the alleged obligation. I demand that your company immediately cease all attempts to collect this alleged debt and remove any negative information from my credit report related to this alleged debt. If your company fails to comply with this demand, I will have no choice but to pursue legal action against you.

Issue: Advertising and marketing, including promotional offers

Subissue: Didn't receive advertised or promotional terms

Consumer Complaint: I have an American Express credit card ending with XXXX. I received a {$50.00} for a promotional offer completed more than 10 months ago. But this week, they charge the credit back saying the offer was not completed. I disagree with this decion since it had been so long and I had never received any notice within the offer time frame that I did not meet the requirements. If they inform me so I can have time to meet the requirements. But since they did not inform me anything after the credit was applied for 6 months. I thought it was ok. I tried to solve the problem with this company, but they asked me an XXXX year old man to search their terms. All 4 customer services I talked to refused to have someone review the credit reversal.

Issue: Advertising and marketing, including promotional offers

Subissue: Didn't receive advertised or promotional terms

Consumer Complaint: Dear XXXX, I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction with the services provided by American Express XXXX XXXX to my American Express XXXX XXXX XXXX I opened this account on XX/XX/2022, without any knowledge of the existing welcome offer. It was only later that I became aware of the potential offer associated with this card. Recognizing that the availability of credit card offers XXXX vary based on the method of application, even within the same brand, I sought clarification regarding the eligibility of my card. Therefore, on XX/XX/2022, I contacted American Express. During the telephone conversation, after checking my account, the operator assured me that upon spending {$2000.00} within six months using the card, I would receive XXXX rewards points. This information was conveyed to me after the operator had reviewed my account details. However, despite fulfilling the spending requirements, I have not received any rewards points as promised. My attempts to communicate with American Express regarding this issue since XX/XX/2022 have been met with complete silence. It was not until XX/XX/2022, after filing complaints with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau ( CFPB ), that I finally received responses from American Express. Unfortunately, the responses simply stated that my card is not eligible for the rewards, and it is cleared that the telephone operator had incorrectly assured me of the reward without verifying eligibility. In the call, my primary concern was to determine whether my specific account, and not just the card brand, was eligible for the rewards offer. American Express 's failure to verify eligibility and its misleading statement that the rewards would be provided have resulted in significant inconvenience and loss on my part. I deliberately chose to use this card over others with potentially greater benefits solely to attain the promised rewards, which were ultimately never issued. I hold American Express responsible for this loss as it provided erroneous information. Furthermore, I must express my profound dissatisfaction with the response I received, indicating that American Express " will not respond '' the future correspondence regarding this matter. This dismissive attitude towards a legitimate grievance reflects poorly on the company and its commitment to customer service. In light of the aforementioned circumstances, I kindly request that American Express promptly rectify this situation by honoring the rewards offer as originally communicated to me by the telephone operator. Additionally, I expect a formal acknowledgement of this complaint and a commitment to address the matter with the utmost seriousness. Failure to address this issue satisfactorily within a reasonable timeframe will leave me with no choice but to pursue further action, including escalating the matter to relevant regulatory bodies and seeking legal recourse. I trust that American Express will take this matter seriously and act promptly to resolve it. I look forward to a favorable resolution and a timely response. In addition, I want the CFPB to publish this description on consumerfinance.gov so that others can learn from my experience. Relevant case number : XXXX, XXXX American express case number XXXX XXXX
