Issue: Managing an account
Subissue: Fee problem
Consumer Complaint: My bank, Truist, with whomI had a home mortgage and checking account ( connected so I would not miss a payment ) charged me a {$20.00} checking account fee on the checking account after I paid off my mortgage. They say it's because I paid off my mortgage loan on XX/XX/2023 and you have to maintain some balance or relationships or you have to pay a fee. I was not aware of the fee but even so, I don't think its right for them to charge me for a whole month when I was without the mortgage for 2 weeks. They provide almost no interest, I paid over {$27000.00} in mortgage interest for 2 years and now they charge me {$20.00} since I paid the mortgage off. They also charged me a {$10.00} " recording fee '' for paying off my mortgage. I wish the banker we spoke to in person in XXXX told us about this because I would have closed the checking account the same day as I paid off the mortgage so I don't have to incur a {$20.00} in my checking account. Banks should not be charging fees on checking and savings accounts because they make money off of our deposits. They charge fees that don't make sense and should not be allowed to do so.

Issue: Getting a credit card
Subissue: Application denied
Consumer Complaint: Everytime I apply for a credit card with my bank Truist bank they claim that they can not verify my identity. This is impossible because they have a tool that already puts my personal information into the application fields for me after I sign in. If they already have my personal information on file, then how can they not verify my identity? Also, when I apply for any business product, the application says that my business is too risky - meaning that Truist bank has the wrong NAICS code for what my business is, which is harmful to my ability to acquire credit.

Consumer Complaint: I received promotion mail from Truist bank. The promotion was that I will receive {$400.00} if I open my account and have 2 direct deposit of totaling {$1000.00} or more within 90 days of account open. On XX/XX/2023, I opened the account using the promo code that was mentioned in the promotion letter. I didnt get confirmation or acknowledgement that promotion was applied or not. Because of this confusion, I called Truist bank customer care on XXXX and informed them the same. The agent checked and informed me that promotion was correctly applied, and I should be getting promotion after meeting the conditions. I made 2 direct deposit transaction one on XX/XX/2023 of {$1000.00} and another one on XX/XX/2023 of {$10.00}. This should qualify me for the promotion. I called Truist customer care today ( XX/XX/2023 ) to verify the same. I was shocked when the agent informed me, I didnt do my qualifying deposit though she confirmed my current balance is {$510.00}. I asked her to check the transactions again as I can see both the transactions in my account. She keeps on stating that I didnt have any direct deposit other than {$10.00}. Then I asked her to check why I have balance of {$510.00} when I didnt make the any deposit according to her. Then she went back and checked with someone else and stated to me that she can see the deposit, but it is not qualifying deposit, so I didnt qualify for promotion. I was in complete shocked. I said it is direct deposit as it came from my employer, and it is qualifying transaction. She was resisting it. Then I asked her to connect me to her supervisor. I was connected to supervisor after few minutes. I explained her all the things, then she checked on something and informed me that promotion wasnt applied at the time of the account opening, so my account doesnt qualify for promotion. I said you can go and check the recording of XX/XX/2023 where agent checked and confirmed me that promotion was successfully applied to my account. I am very disappointed with the service. She told me she is going to submit request to check the recordings and it will take about 25 business days to hear back from the backend team.

Consumer Complaint: I recently sold my house and, as a consequence, paid off my mortgage. I moved before the sale was final and updated my mailing address on my account profile on Truist 's website. However, this change apparently only applied to my checking account, not my mortgage account ( both of which I accessed through the same website where I changed my mailing address ). As a result, documents and my escrow refund check where sent to my old mailing address, which I no longer own much less live. There was no indication on their website that changes to your mailing address made online do not apply to your mortgage account.
