Issue: Problem when making payments
Subissue: Problem during payment process
Consumer Complaint: When making a large payment to my PayPal World cashback Mastercard which is issued through Synchrony Bank, my XXXX checking account shows that the money was paid and it also shows in my Paypal credit card app that it was paid on XX/XX/2023 but Synchrony bank states that in their terms and conditions that the payment may be delayed, is on hold and can take up to 21 days to post to my account. So which causes me to only use the available credit even though I paid them. When I talked to a supervisor she stated that they don't know what is happening behind the scenes or how the algorithm is written. As you can see in the statement the payment was {$11000.00}. The paragraph that talks about the payment could be delayed is on page 4 under " How and when to make payments/When payments are due. Thank you for protecting us and resolving issues like this.

Issue: Fees or interest
Subissue: Problem with fees
Consumer Complaint: XX/XX/XXXX I made a promotional purchase with deferred interest. Since opening my account, any new non-promotional purchases have been paid-in-full ( or overpaid ) every month. Meaning, I have paid the minimum balance due ( or more ) AND any new purchase balances. XX/XX/XXXX, I noticed an interest charge and sent a message in the customer portal requesting an explanation. On XX/XX/XXXX XXXX XXXX stated, " You may avoid interest on any non-deferred purchases by adding the amount of New/ Non-promotional Purchases to the Minimum Required Payment from your statement and sending that amount as payment. '' Since I had overpaid the minimum balance due and all new purchases were paid-in-full, I called customer service and was told that I had paid my new purchase balance too quickly and the system misallocated my payment towards the promotional balance ( instead of new purchases ) because the system had not processed the charges. I was instructed to wait until the purchases reflected in my account before paying the balance. The interest charge was waived. In XX/XX/XXXX I made {$1000.00} in new purchases and had a minimum balance of {$94.00} due. ( I followed the instructions I was given in XXXX. I made a transaction on XX/XX/XXXX that I paid-in-full on XX/XX/XXXX. Another transaction on XX/XX/XXXX that I paid-in-full on XX/XX/XXXX ). In total, I paid {$2000.00} on my XXXX statement - an overpayment of {$940.00}. My XX/XX/XXXX statement reflected another interest charge. On XX/XX/XXXX, I sent another message in the portal and received a response from XXXX XXXX stating the same thing XXXX XXXX shared in XXXX, " You may avoid interest on any non-deferred purchases by adding the amount of New/ Non-promotional Purchases to the Minimum Required Payment from your statement and sending that amount as payment. '' I called customer service again and my interest fee was waived. I was told it was obviously an error ; however, my previous payments were not reallocated towards my non-promotional balance. My XX/XX/XXXX statement reflected another interest charge. I called customer service again and was told : - It does not matter if I pay off the new purchase balance, I will be charged interest on all non-promotional purchases no matter what. I asked where this was in the policy agreement and was put on hold. ( I never received a response. ) - It does not matter if I overpay my minimum balance due and new purchases, I will be charged interest - I requested a copy of the policy supporting that interest would be charged regardless of payment status. ( It was not provided )- I was told I have to call customer service every time I make a payment if I need to allocate funds towards new purchases- I requested an incident number so I could follow-up on the status of my request for an account review. ( It was not provided. ) I was told I would receive a letter in the mail in 60 days. - I was told the interest could not be waived because " it is a valid charge. '' ( Even though I have it in writing from 2 separate customer service representatives that the policy is, " You may avoid interest on any non-deferred purchases by adding the amount of New/ Non-promotional Purchases to the Minimum Required Payment from your statement and sending that amount as payment. '' )

Issue: Fees or interest
Subissue: Problem with fees
Consumer Complaint: I went to XXXX to purchase an outside furniture set. I was offered at the register an opportunity to apply for an interest free credit card for one year. It was all done at the cash register. I have been charged interest from day one. I have paid the principle completely off, and TJX continues to charge me interest and late fees. When I called to complain, they said that I owed XXXX dollars. When I asked them to break it down, it was XXXX dollars in late fees and the rest in new last fees and interest. I asked them to remove all the late fees and interest from the account and close the account. They refused. I asked for a manager and waited 30 minutes and was told there was nothing she could do and that there were no other people above her that could address my concerns. This is unheard of. I asked her to have someone call me, she said that they do not call out. They are charging loan shark rates on closed principles and refuse to refund my money or close the account.

Issue: Advertising and marketing, including promotional offers
Subissue: Didn't receive advertised or promotional terms
Consumer Complaint: My complaint is on Care Credit by Synchrony Bank. I applied for the credit card in XX/XX/2021 to help pay for XXXX. I charged the {$4500.00} to the card under a no interest for 24 month promotion. The promotion expires in a few days and they added $ XXXX in interest. I asked how much I had left to pay on the promotion and it is almost {$3000.00}. They stated if I paid that amount before the next due date, they would cancel the interest. I have made {$4200.00} in payments during the 24 months. They stated that I could not chose to have those payments applied to the promotion and that payments are applied as they see fit. I would be happy to pay the remaining {$210.00} before the next due date to cancel out the interest. Yes, I made other purchases over the 24 months, but that interest wouldn't total up to {$2900.00}. The fact that I have made that much in payments but only paid down the promotion by less than {$1600.00} is a scam and predatory.

Issue: Getting a credit card
Subissue: Application denied
Consumer Complaint: As the Accommodation party to the application/instrument i am owed consideration for my accommodation. There was none because I was denied. Therefore this constitutes as unauthorized use of my social security credit card and discrimination. Synchrony has the ability to sell my application to a 3rd party and reap income so you cant legally deny my credit.

Issue: Problem when making payments
Subissue: Problem during payment process
Consumer Complaint: My financial institution sent my payments prior to the due date XX/XX/XXXX ( XXXX ) and XX/XX/XXXX ( XXXX ). The checks were presented for payment and I have cancelled checks. I wrote to the company 3 times submitting documentation, including a letter from my financial institution THREE times. Each time, I receive a response saying they are workig on it, but receiving a bill dated XX/XX/XXXX showing interest and late fees. On XX/XX/XXXX I called AGAIN, and was told the letter was not acceptable because it didn't include an " amount ''. This is untrue, all the documentation was included. Also, they tried to tell me it takes 60 days to resolve -- also untrue -- have been trying to resolve this since XXXX. Once I threatened to file a regulatory complaint, there was some vague comment about some " supervisor '' resolving this. I believe this was a blatant attempt to defraud a consumer.

Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed
Subissue: Debt was paid
Consumer Complaint: I paid this debt XXXX years ago, and the company that originally had it, XXXX and XXXX, sold it, anyway. Every few years, it gets sold down the line and another debt collection company buys it and annoys me about it for a couple of months until they give up. This most recent company has threatened to take me to court, even after I explained that I had proof that the debt has been paid. I told them to go ahead and file and stop calling me. They've called me three more times since then.

Issue: Problem with a purchase shown on your statement
Subissue: Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement
Consumer Complaint: In reference to my previous complaint CFPB # XXXX, Company response is states that their Fraud department has concluded that purchases two transactions ( {$210.00} & {$34.00} ) totaling {$280.00} were not made by me. As a result a refund has been issued. The only refund that was issued to me was the extra amount that I had overpaid which was a. The amount I payed to XXXXXXXX XXXX is {$610.00} on XX/XX/2023, which included : 1> The fraud amount {$280.00} 2> Late Fee 3> Interest charges 4> Fine Plus destruction of my credit rating - direct outcome of that is I could not get home mortgage loan, as my credit rating had plummeted. I assume we all can do the math on the tangible amount and if that is true then the statement shared by Synchrony Bank on the amount refunded to me is both false and misleading. At the bare minimum Synchrony Bank stands to refund me {$560.00} Sincerely, XXXX XXXX

Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed
Subissue: Debt was result of identity theft
Consumer Complaint: I have provided a police report regarding my stolen identity and multiple accounts being opened in my name. I asked the company to send proof that the debt belongs to me being that they refuse to remove it and was sent a bill instead. A bill is not credible enough to claim the debt belongs to me. As a result of the negative remarks on my credit file, I am homeless and unable to obtain housing. I am also unable to access credit cards.
