Issue: Managing an account
Subissue: Fee problem
Consumer Complaint: Dear Navy Federal Credit Union, I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to request a refund of {$310.00} that was charged to my checking account yesterday. As a dedicated member of your institution, I have always trusted in your commitment to providing exceptional service. Unfortunately, I recently experienced some unexpected and difficult circumstances related to my father 's health. As a result, I was not aware that the assistance I received would come at a cost, and I can not afford the additional fee at this time. I am barely able to stay afloat financially, as I am constantly traveling back and forth to the hospital and trying to provide for my XXXX young boys. I am deeply saddened by the way I was treated over the phone by supervisor XXXX and XXXX. They were not understanding of my situation and made me feel humiliated for asking for help. I understand that mistakes can happen, and I am hoping that you can find it in your hearts to assist me during this difficult time. I appreciate your understanding and look forward to resolving this situation as soon as possible. Sincerely, XXXX XXXX

Consumer Complaint: I have attempted to cancel this service since XXXX has refused to assist in changing my alarm monitoring connection to Wi-Fi to be compatible with my new internet connection and ISP. We changed communication to Wi-Fi ( XXXX ) and disconnected the cable ( XXXX XXXX ) on XXXX XX/XX/2023. In fact, XXXX did not even detect a communication fault until 1-1/2 weeks later -- VERY POOR SERVICE RESPONSE. I also sent a letter confirming my service disconnection, which was returned undeliverable. I have explained this to my credit card company to which XXXX continues to make charges and the Navy Federal Credit Union has declined to cease the payments.

Issue: Closing an account
Subissue: Can't close your account
Consumer Complaint: I am writing to file a formal complaint against Navy Federal Credit Union regarding their refusal to close my checking account and provide me with the necessary funds. Despite my repeated requests and adherence to their stated procedures, Navy Federal has failed to comply with my reasonable request to terminate my account and issue a check for the remaining balance. I believe their actions are in violation of the following codes and laws : 1. Regulation E ( Electronic Fund Transfer Act ) : Navy Federal is required to comply with Regulation E, which grants consumers the right to initiate the closure of their checking accounts and receive the remaining funds. As per Section 1005.10 of Regulation E, financial institutions must honor a consumers request to close an account and promptly provide the available balance. 2. Truth in Savings Act : Under the Truth in Savings Act, financial institutions are obligated to provide accurate and transparent information about the terms and conditions of their deposit accounts, including the procedure for account closure and disbursement of funds. Navy Federals refusal to close my account and issue a check for the remaining balance contradicts the principles of this act. XXXX. Consumer Financial Protection Act ( CFPA ) : The CFPA grants the CFPB authority to enforce federal consumer financial laws. It includes provisions to protect consumers from unfair, deceptive, or abusive acts or practices by financial institutions. Navy Federals refusal to close my account and provide the remaining funds may be considered an unfair or deceptive practice under the CFPA. I have made multiple attempts to contact Navy Federal through their customer service channels, providing them with all the necessary information to facilitate the account closure and the issuance of a check for the remaining balance. However, they have consistently disregarded my request, leaving me unable to access the funds in my account.
