Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer
Subissue: Received bad information about your loan
Consumer Complaint: I was about a month away from the end of my deferment period after graduating with my XXXX XXXX degree and was enrolled in a graduate program. The school had already sent out the information to lenders so my deferment should have been continued but I continued to receive notifications that I had to pay soon. I contacted Navient to get this fixed, as I am not working during my program and can not make any payments so the deferment was necessary. The person I spoke to said that he didn't know if they got the information from my school stating I would be enrolled full-time so I got a letter directly from the admissions office with all of the necessary information to defer my loans and submitted it immediately. My payment date was coming up in a few days at this point so I asked them how long it would take to change this on my account and stop the payments/begin deferring my loans again and he said it would range from one to two weeks so it is mandated that I make a payment so I am not late. I made the payment after getting off the phone with him and the next day, my deferment was accepted. Thoroughly disappointed in the inaccurate information I was given, as I have limited funds as is and made a large payment when I should not have had to.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer
Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled
Consumer Complaint: I have been paying on my federal student loans that are serviced through Navient. I have been set up on automatic payments for at least the last 2 years. In XX/XX/2018 I enrolled in a 4 credit course through XXXX County XXXX XXXX as part of an employer requirement for a job promotion. During that time I pay for the course out of pocket and assumed I was paying my student loans as I always have. Months later I realized that my payments were not being withdrawn and was only notified when I received an email stating that my loans were in forebearance, of which I never agreed to. I am not schedule to begin making payments again and realized that I have accrued additional interest due to the loans being in forbearance that I had never authorized in the first place. I find the tactics used by the company to be misleading and unlawful.

Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed
Subissue: Debt is not yours
Consumer Complaint: GILA Corp ( XXXX ) XXXX has attempted to collect a debt from me in the past that i found out was not mine at all. Upon my request, Gila Corp provided more details about the debt and i determined it was someone with my same name, but was not me. I proved this to them by telling them this person had a different birthday than mine, we only shared a name. The agent confirmed they would no longer call me or pursue this debt with me, but fast forward a couple years and now theyre back at it, calling my home 3 times a day. I do not feel that i should have to argue with them and prove to them my identity every 2 years in perpetuity, they need a better way of verifying identities of the people they harrass and not just blanket call everyone in the USA who shares the same name, hoping that theyre scare tactics will cause multiple people to pay a singular debt of someone they have the misfortune of sharing a name with.

Issue: Struggling to repay your loan
Subissue: Problem lowering your monthly payments
Consumer Complaint: I currently have student loans through Navient. I have been struggling for years to try in lower my interest payments and also try to get income based payment arrangements. I currently live pay check to pay. I get roughly XXXX/bi weekly and they want my repayment to be over 1,200/monthly. No matter how many times try to send them my monthly expenses and what I have left ; sometimes not even enough money to buy groceries. With my monthly expenses and bills I roughly have about XXXX left for gas, groceries, personal hygiene ect.. I have been told by them to sell my car, walk to work, etc..They will only allow me to set up payment online/calling them by credit card or my checking account. I have never been giving the option to send a money order from my bank. As an educated individual trying to pay back student loans with what money I have left, I continue to get harassed by many many nasty phone calls from Navient along with my family members. Please help me to get a solution resolved with Navient and a less stressful loan lender willing to work with me based on my finances.

Issue: Struggling to repay your loan
Subissue: Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan
Consumer Complaint: I had taken a private loan in XX/XX/2007 from Navient who was Sallie Mae in the past. I was paying them about {$87.00} a month. This was what I was able to pay. They raised the payment a few months later to {$110.00}. Which was fine, then they asked me to pay more. I honestly gave up because this was all I can pay. Every month I saw my statement the amount was still the same. They called me to work something out with me after I stopped paying, I talked to them and they still had no options for me. It was I either pay the full amount or I continue to make payments. Not sure why they were calling me to work out something, if they had nothing. I had filed for bankruptcy this year and my private loans could not be forgiven, they still call me from different debt collectors, ask me to pay, they lowered it my loan to a lump sum which I don't have it, they called my relatives to ask about me. I don't know how to get rid of them anymore. I wish If someone can help me. Thank you.

Consumer Complaint: On several occassions I contacted SallieMae and Navient regarding difficulty in making payments. Sallie Mae had told me on one occasion that my loan was not eligble for forgiveness because it was initiated before XX/XX/1991, even though I qualified in XXXX area, including teaching ay-risk students in non-profit intitution, in an urban area. Both servicers offered forebearance, and never offered any repayment options. I beleive my loan has been in forbearance a total of 10 times. I dont rememberdate as this has occurred over 12 years. At one point my loan was {$9000.00}. Now it is up to {$20000.00} because representatives at Navient recommended forbearance.
