Issue: Struggling to repay your loan

Subissue: Problem lowering your monthly payments

Consumer Complaint: XX/XX/2019 Navient gave me a lowered monthly payment. They took the money out of my account the same day. Today ( XX/XX/2019 ) I was informed through email that I did not qualify for the loan modification. Am I wrong in believing that if they took the modified payment amount out of my checking account, they have entered into a contract through their action? Is their attestation that I didn't qualify for the loan modification after taking the adjusted amount out of my account an attempt to break that contract? Thanks for your help in this matter. XXXX XXXX

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Problem with customer service

Consumer Complaint: Navient continues to send me emails about the payment they expect from me in XXXX. They claim that my school didn't report to the XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. I logged into the database and it says that I am a full-time student. Therefore, there is no reason they should be sending me emails expecting payment. Their website gives you the run around when it comes to filing forms online and contacting them by email. They say if you log in you can email them. It becomes one giant circle of going around from page to page without finding the information you are entitled to. They keep everything under wraps and do not inform their customers of anything. This is predatory student lending or debt collection at this point. My student status was updated on XX/XX/2019. There is NO REASON they should be asking me for payment now. But they are and I'm sick to death of their terrible customer service and harassment. If they aren't doing their job and checking the database, then that's not my issue. Something needs to be done about this. They have helped my old school to rip people off, they took my money and I got nothing in return but they still have these loans. It's bad enough I have to go back to college to try and get where I should have been in the first place.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Received bad information about your loan

Consumer Complaint: Navient gave me wrong information regarding deferments. Navient told me I could not cancel my deferment and make payments. Navient, it seems, did not process my payments correctly. Navient did not refer me to XXXX when I requested to be in the 10 year loan forgiveness program. When I went back to school XX/XX/2016 at XXXX my loan automatically went into deferment. When I called Navient to say I still wanted to make payments toward my 120 qualifying payments for loan forgiveness, Navient told me that I if I made payments while I was in deferment the payments would not be counted towards the 120 payments. I said I did not want my loan in deferment. The Navient rep told me that while I was in school my loan would be in deferment and I did not have to make payments while it was in deferment. Again I said I don't want my loan in deferment. I asked how can this be resolved? The Navient rep had no answer for me. I called back again to talk with another rep who gave me the same story. I found out from another Navient rep a year later that what I was told was not true. I could have continued to make IBR payments, I needed to call another phone number to request a deferment cancellation and reapply for an IBR plan. XXXX XXXX who now has my loan and has taken a year so far to process Navients payments. XXXX has said that they needed to carefully look at each one to make sure it was processed correctly and is a qualifying payment. There automated system only found 6 qualifying payments, there are 31 more payments that need to be looked at more closely by hand. These payments may or may not be qualifying. Additionally, Navient told me that I didnt have to fill out any paperwork to apply for the loan forgiveness program. I asked several times in the 5 years. They said I just needed to make IBR payments for 10 years and my loan will be forgiven. I found out from a co-worker that I should have submitted an application for the student loan forgiveness. When I talked to Navient about this form they gave me the number for XXXX and told me that XXXX handle the processing of this form. Navient rep also said that I didn't have to fill out this form but it was a good idea. They also made it seem like XXXX just processed these applications. I realize after filling out the online application and paperwork that my loan was being transferred from Navient to XXXX and that XXXX was another loan handler. Problems I am having -- Problem 1 -- I missed a year of payments because Navient told me that I couldnt make IBR payments while I was in deferment and that I couldnt get out of deferment while I was in school. This was incorrect. I could have been one year closer to being finished with these loans. And if I get stuck with this loan because Navient didn't process my payments correctly I'm paying a years worth of interest on top of that. Problem 2 -- Navient should have sent me to XXXX XXXX from the beginning if they could not provide adequate services, paperwork and application for the 10 year loan forgiveness payment plan. Problem 3 -- XXXX says I only have 6 qualifying payments from Navient so far, and Ive made over 5 YEARS worth of payments with Navient.

Issue: Struggling to repay your loan

Subissue: Problem lowering your monthly payments

Consumer Complaint: I was consitantly making payments of {$280.00} for almost 6 months. However, when I tried to call Navient at the beginning of XXXX about how I cant afford to pay that much a month they pretty much told me that I have already been given the lowest payment plan they have. I am in the military and I am the sole source of finances to my wife and XXXX kids. I will be more than willing to make these payments if i could get them lowered. Please help me.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Received bad information about your loan

Consumer Complaint: For the past 2 years, I have been attempting to get the full details of any Student Loans and my taxes have been seized due to a frivolous loan statement that is sent when I request for full documented information concerning me trying to borrow money for a Student Loan ( s ). I have requested a full detailed paper trail of the loan, the schools my full signature on any and all paperwork and XXXX and NAVIENT both failed in providing the accurate description. I feel now that I must file for a hearing to deal with this problem.

Issue: Struggling to repay your loan

Subissue: Problem lowering your monthly payments

Consumer Complaint: 2009 I applied for financial aid through Sallie Mae and attended XXXX XXXX in XXXX Texas. Upon completing my diploma, i started paying my loans and had payments of XXXX $ a month which was doable. 2 years later, i applied for financial aid to attend more classes and went on deferment due to being in school. While on deferment, Sallie mae transfered all of my loan information over to Navient and it has been a nightmare every since. Navient continues to raise my payments without my knowledge, putting me on some fast track program where they raise your payments by XXXX $ a year for me to supposedly pay it off quicker which I explained to Navient that I can not afford to pay the amount they given me and that they were causing me to be late and continuously go into forebarance because I can not afford to pay the monthly payments.Mind you, these loans have been out for 10 years now and I owe more money to Navient then the original price of my loan with was XXXX $ and is now XXXX XXXX after paying on it. I feel trapped and like I will never be done paying this loan and going into debt when I do try to pay it. I just do not understand why they felt they could raise my payments to an amount I had no way to pay as if they were dooming me to fail by going delinquent.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled

Consumer Complaint: Navient manages several private loans of mine. But they don't allow for an easy transparent way to determine the monthly payments cost. The site is very confusing. Also, I have separate loans with different cosigners and I should be able to send in payments and pay extra amounts on each load easily and they are do not process my payments accordingly. I want to be able to see my monthly payments and be able to send payments to each specific loan, not a bulk payment to all loans. I should have complete control over how payments are applied.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Received bad information about your loan

Consumer Complaint: 1 ) Six of my loans with Navient recently had cancelled amount reflected on my XXXX account. When I checked my Navient account I noticed that these cancelled amount were reflected as refunds but also the amounts were inaccurate. For example, my XXXX loan with Navient is loan # XXXX on my XXXX but when I look at the account history the {$870.00} cancelled amount is reflected as {$150.00}. Why I have no idea because those amounts do not even come close to matching. 2 ) Another thing I noticed on my XXXX is that time that I was in a forbearance or deferment period Navient has late fees charged to my accounts. This issue is actually something I previously complained about being incorrectly reported on my Credit report, and even though that was cleared up they are still not reflecting on my actual account with Navient. 3 ) When I requested that my account be review and I would provide documentation I was instructed via email to call customer service. I do not feel comfortable talking on the phone addressing these issues as I have told them in all of my communications with them, I believe having a paper trail with a company I do not trust is better than talking on a recorded line.
