Issue: Cont'd attempts collect debt not owed
Subissue: Debt is not mine
Consumer Complaint: After exhausting all measures known to me to get more information and pay a debt that I supposedly owe, the defendant refuses to send photographic information to prove the debt is mine. A debt that was put on my credit without my knowledge and only appeared as I was trying to apply for another apartment a year later. The apartment complex, XXXX XXXX, nor the debt collectors, National Credit Services Inc., tried to reach me at the numerous telephone numbers they had nor sent out correspondences to the other addresses on file they had nor sent out a debt verification letter with an itemized list of charges or notification of my right to dispute the debt before putting it on my credit which is a violation of the FDCPA. I have filled with the CFPB ( XXXX XXXX ) and disputed it with the credit bureaus ( multiple times ; most recently XXXX/XXXX/XXXX ). I believe the reason for this was to try to force me pay for something that I do not owe, abusing their power which in turn makes me look less than an upstanding citizen ; even after numerous demand letters they still wo n't provide actual evidence of their claim. In the meantime, I have been denied car insurance, credit cards, financing for vehicle and apartments ; XXXX of those listed things are things of necessity. Without the apartment, my roommate and I have been homeless. Luckily, we were able to find some people who were able to help, but that does n't excuse the fact that we still need a permanent place of residence and that process was and still is unnecessarily hindered by the other parties. On XXXX XXXX, XXXX, I sent a correspondence to the Law offices of XXXX XXXX XXXX and XXXX ( they are representing National Credit Systems , Inc in this matter ) asking for substantial proof of the debt and as of today ( XXXX/XXXX/XXXX ) I have n't heard anything back from them in the form of the asked evidence or a general correspondence. They still have n't sent me all the information that I asked for in a correspondence I sent in XXXX XXXX ; information that is pertinent to the validation and verification of the supposed owed debt.

Consumer Complaint: We have an apartment complex ( XXXX ) that we lived at and moved out of and at the time we did not owe any money. Later we noticed on our credit report that the apartment complex sent a collection amount to a collection agency ( National Credit Systems Inc. ) for over XXXX dollars, we contacted the collection agency and tried to get clarification of the amount owed and who actually owed it. They stated that there were XXXX different social security numbers attached to the debt, but did not know what amounts belong to witch social security numbers. we then contacted the XXXX and asked for clarification, they would not send us any information. All they stated was that all people with the last name of XXXX was put into XXXX file and then sent to a collection agency. National Credit Systems did state that some of the charges was a security deposit. How can a security deposit be charged after a move out. We have asked several times for the original documents and XXXX and the collection agency have never provided them. We are trying to buy a house and this is preventing us from doing so.

Consumer Complaint: XXXX XXXX Florida. My wife and I learned while living there of this company 's unusual practice during departure walk-through with the Apartment Manager and staff. Their practice was to lift up the carpet, point to a stain, then claim the renter had made the stain. Usually claimed due to pets, no matter whether the tenant had pets or not. In anticipation of such behavior, my wife photographed the Apartment Manager and assistant as they conducted the walk-through. They pulled the carpet up in all rooms and wrote on their Departure Walk-through Form that there were no stains or damage from pets or anything else. We were provided a copy of the Departure Walk-through Form for our records. We were told our {$300.00} deposit would be sent to our new address. We turned over all keys and gate access codes we had in our possession, thereby effectively no longer having access to the apartment. One week later, a different Apartment Manager sent us a demand letter for {$900.00} ( keeping our {$300.00} deposit ) where the carpet replacement company had written an estimate which said " carpet is XXXX soaked throughout ''. I replied by asking who they had allowed into the apartment after we relinquished control? We had photos of them taking photos as they pulled up the carpet in each room as mentioned above. I also reminded the new Apartment Manager we already had a completed Departure Walk-through Form which indicated no damage. There was no response for a couple of weeks, then we began to receive demand letters from Post Bay Apartments for {$900.00} to replace the carpet. My wife and I then retained a lawyer to ask for some evidence to support their claim. They never responded to the lawyers letter. They subsequently sold the debt to another company, National Credit Systems. A representative from National Credit System called me on the phone once, at which time I requested proof, any legal proof, of the debt. They declined, and entered a derogatory entry on my credit. Following that initial call they would not return phone calls nor would they respond to letters sent through the mail. The cost of hiring a lawyer to correct the issue was more than {$1500.00}. My wife and I decided we would wait until we were denied a mortgage or similar loan request, due to this fake debt. Nothing happened despite two mortgages closing. So, this past XXXX I wrote to all three credit agencies informing them the debt was unsubstantiated. I received responses from all three that m dispute had been recorded, but they were not going to remove the fake debt. My wife and I are once again applying for a VA backed mortgage. The Loan Officer contacted me on the phone and she informed me how the dispute must be removed before and loan initiation process could start. I was unaware of the CFPB. She said that one of the purposes of the CFPB was to address issues just like mine. We have documentation and pictures as well as letters written on our behalf by a lawyer in XXXX. We do not have is any proof that supports the debt. Nor do they. Only their assertions. It is now obvious to me that if I do n't pay them their ransom money, I cant buy our new house. Its like credit report blackmail. I was told by the loan officer for my new house that the CFPB was created for just such situations as I have found myself in.

Consumer Complaint: Someone initially started using first name and social to obtain medical treatment. In the late 2011 's I had my identification including social card, insurance card for medical, and car and driver 's license stolen. When I saw the damage this fraudster did I almost passed out. Police did n't even want to help and directed me to government nonprofits to deal with the creditors and credit bureaus initiated several disputes with XXXX, XXXX, and XXXX over the last year for erroneous accounts that are not mine. I '' ve followed every step they 've outlines and that your site has told me to do. Still having issues with some accounts because Iguess they want to collect more money from these creditors because they get paid to report negative. If feel like this mistreatment is racially motivated bc of the climate we 're in. It 's hurting my family. below are some documents i sent to them on several occasions. It really seems they keep accounts/collections on credit reports because the credit bureau will make more money the longer it 's there. Companies like national credit systems are one in the same but neither one can really help I think me and millions of americans are being lied to by the credit reporting agencies.

Consumer Complaint: I leased an apartment from XXXX XXXX and leased the apartment from the company for nine months while never being late and never causing any problems with the apartment. The apartment complex had a serve roach infestation issue that could not be fixed. Due to my health issues my doctor informed me i could not be around the pesticides nor the roaches due to them causing me to become very ill. I talked to the property manager several times along with send her emails complaining about the issues with the apartment causing me to become ill. She arranged a face to face meeting with her regional property manager and after me presenting the doctor information along with pics of the issues with the apartment she informed me that i would just have to indure the issues until my lease ended or pay a relenting fee to be let out my lease. I informed her that i am fully XXXX and i could not live under those conditions and so i put in a 60 day notice to vacate and asked her to use the {$500.00} deposit i paid to cover any fee 's that occurred.

Consumer Complaint: Hello - I have a entry on my credit report from National Credit Systems. They say I owe an old apartment complex I used to live in for a couple of months rent. However - I had moved out early from the apartment, thus ending my contract early. I even paid the early termination fee. However - National Credit Systems is saying that I owe the apartment complex for the rest of the contract, even though I cancelled it early. I have told them that, and they still entered the information onto my credit reports. I can provide evidence that I cancelled the contract early.
