Issue: Struggling to pay mortgage
Subissue:
Consumer Complaint: Due to a layoff of employment, I missed some payments on my HELOC. I filled out a hardship application in XXXXXXXX XXXX but was declined as I was on unemployment for my only income and Key Bank stated that they could not use unemployment income. I then gained full time employment in XX/XX/2022. I re-applied for a hardship, and again was declined due to XXXX. This is an interest only payment and the amount that was owed could not have been more than {$1800.00} in total. During my conversation ( XX/XX/2022 ) when I was told it was declined, I asked what was the past due amount in order to be current on my loan, because I may have had enough by that time to bring the loan current. I was told that they could not give me that information because they had sent it to a foreclosure attorney already. My 2 biggest issues is that I was not given the option to pay it in full at the time it was expressed to me that my hardship application was declined, and secondly, it was sent to a foreclosure attorney before I was even given the opportunity to appeal it. This is true for both the dates and also I had not received the appeal paperwork before it was sent to the foreclosure attorney. I believe these motions were not necessary and unfair. This was not a large amount of money that I was behind on and believe I was not given fair options to resolve it before sending it to a foreclosure attorney which will also cause me to incur additional financial hardships due to legal fees and additional bank fees.

Issue: Managing an account
Subissue: Problem accessing account
Consumer Complaint: I opened a loyalty checking account online with XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXX on XXXX I deposited money to fund the account on XXXX & then authorized payment of {$2500.00} by direct deposit from my XXXX account on XXXX XXXX XXXX locked the account on XXXX because they detected some kind of fraud and sent me a letter to that effect on the same date. There is no evidence of any kind of fraud by me or anyone else. They told me I had to wait until I got the account closed letter in the mail. this never came. The account remains locked and I have no access to the money. I have called at least 4 times and I'm getting the runaround. I called again today & was told they haven't decided if they are going to close the account. I told them I wanted to close the account now. Then they told me I would receive a check in 7-10 days. I said I wanted to close the account now and have access to the money so it could go back to XXXX. The agent transferred me to Key Bank & they hung up. i was on the phone for about 40 mins and got nowhere. At this point I just want to transfer the money back into my XXXX account. The account is still locked and the money is locked up with it. I hope you can help me with this.

Consumer Complaint: The past 2-3 months, every single visit to a KeyBank branch has resulted in them being " unable to find my address '' on my account, even though I have my address listed on my account and it is visible in the app. This has happened 5-6 times, and on XX/XX/2023, a visit to a branch somehow necessitated me writing down my Social Security #. Upon calling customer support earlier today, I was told that they " didn't have anyone to solve the issue '' and to resolve it at my local branch, even though it happens at every branch. It is clear that KeyBank doesn't care about its customers, and I am switching elsewhere.

Issue: Closing an account
Subissue: Funds not received from closed account
Consumer Complaint: XXXX of 2022, I opened an account with Key Bank in XXXX to receive funding from a friend outside of the state through XXXX transactions. I opened the account online and some address information was wrong, and Keybank set up a home branch in XXXX When I went to withdraw the money in Michigan, It was flagged as fraud. After proving my identity, Keybank still withheld the fund. due to suspected fraud, I was not told of any information. The KeyBank retailer suggested closing the account and the fund with be resent back to the sender, so I closed the account with KeyBank. I contacted the sender and sat down with XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX will not request the fund, because the money was sent legitimately and they can not give out client information. So Keybank and XXXXXXXX XXXX will not talk to each other to resolve the issue, and Keybank has since then sent me running around. I since then have moved out of XXXX and to XXXX Keybank retailer now won't return my call, and Keybank back office number said they can not do anything on the phone and I have to talk to the bank branch.

Issue: Trouble during payment process
Subissue:
Consumer Complaint: In XXXX we spoke with Keybank and an agent told me I could convert my HELOC at my credit union to an interest-only, fixed rate ( at 5.5 % ) with KeyBank so I began the process. The communication was atrocious. I was asked for information repeatedly that had been sent over two weeks prior. It was awful. I later learned that the 5.5 % was a mistake and the rate would be more like 8.75 %. We went ahead with it anyway despite that major disappointment. And closed the loan in XXXX. At closing, I was told : 1 ) due to the problems wed get a .5 % discount and 2 ) after closing the HELOC as variable, we would lock it for a {$50.00} fee and it would be interest only and fixed rate. I have emails confirming this commitment prior to closing and at closing they made calls to XXXX again promised that after we closed the loan would convert to fixed, interest only. So we closed the loan. A few days later we were informed by the branch manager that KeyBank doesnt have a fixed rate, interest only. They only have a fixed rate principle and interest option, not interest only. Not being able to provide us the loan product which was the only reason we moved to them, our payment went from {$550.00} to {$1600.00}. TOTALLY NOT WHAT WE WANTED TO DO! The only option we had was to stay with a variable rate, but we never needed to do that. AND we had a {$250000.00} credit line now we have {$80000.00}. This was a disaster. Worse, I wish that were the end of the problems, we went in and filled out a form so that they could withdraw our payment monthly from our credit union checking account. We filled it out precisely as they asked us to as we sat in their office. 2 weeks later now they haven't withdrawn our payment, they sent us notice of missed payment and now added late fees. We keep trying to resolve this with the branch manager but he doesn't respond to me.
