Issue: Getting a credit card

Subissue: Sent card you never applied for

Consumer Complaint: I received a bill with a XXXX balance from Key Bank, opened in my name. I received it one day after my mother, who banks with Key, received the same type of bill. Neither of us has ever held or currently hold a credit card or debit card from Key. I did not request a card be opened nor do I have a personal banking relationship with Key. I am a " signer '' on my mother accounts in case of emergency.

Key bank indicated these cards were an error and had been pulled from an old system and bills sent out. As stated, I have never had any credit card from Key bank or From its previous owner XXXX XXXX.

Key bank did not have a clear answer as to why this bill was sent other than a computer problem. However they did indicate it would show up on my credit report. I have not spoken to, written to or requested a card from Key bank at any point it my life.

I believe Key Bank is systemically and fraudulently opening accounts - much like XXXX XXXX.

Issue: Incorrect information on your report

Subissue: Account information incorrect

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX I paid settlement amounts as agreed upon by Key Bank Educational Loans using a home equity line of credit. I paid XXXX and XXXX and XXXX to Keybank to settle the accounts and clear the balances owed. The amounts were dispersed by my bank which is a Federal Credit Union. However, the present status shows that I still have a balance owing and past due amount even though the amounts paid and the amounts showing on my credit history are exactly the same amounts. This is negatively impacting my credit history. I called on XX/XX/XXXX to request that they change the status to correctly reflect that the balance amounts were settled upon ( that we agreed upon a settlement ) and that there is a XXXX balance remaining to be paid and no past due amount. I was directed to 5 different personnel and none of them understood why it showed a XXXX balance owed in the system but is incorrectly being reported on my credit report. I was transferred numerous times. The last person I spoke with told me to file a complaint and show my XXXX forms that show the cancellation of debt in the complaint.

Issue: Getting a loan

Subissue: Fraudulent loan

Consumer Complaint: In XXXX 2004, I arrived at XXXX XXXX as a new incoming freshman. As part of our orientation, we were herded into a meeting with Key Bank and financial aid to sign master promissory notes. It was presented to us as being perfectly normal, and my father ( who is the responsible party here, I was XXXX at the time ) took them at their word as well.

Following this first semeester, I was later told by financial aid that there was no point in even filing a FAFSA, as my father 's income ( in excess of $ 120k ) basically disqualified me from any aid at all anyway. This unfortunately included federal loans, so all of my expenses were instead put on private loans from Key.

After my second year, this suddenly stopped. I was refused additional loans, and I later learned that Key Bank was selling off my existing debt and may be folding entirely. I instead had to get private loans through XXXX XXXX, now serviced by XXXX. The original Key Loans are now handled by XXXX XXXX, while my scattered federal loans ( regained near the end of my XXXX and also accumulated during XXXX XXXX ) were consolidated and now serviced by XXXX.

Now here 's my problem : Each of these three loan servicers basically says, " You can reasonably afford this much payment. '' And they 're correct. However, all three of them say this, and all three do not care that I am basically being asked to pay 3x what they all agree is reasonable.

This is directly due to two factors which I wish to lodge a complaint about : 1 ) I was presented with no options as an incoming freshman. I was not appropriately counseled by the financial aid office, and my guardian responsible for me neglected his responsibility to diligently follow up on this. By the time I was no longer a dependent and learned to handle these matters for myself, it was too late. Everything was already in motion and even correcting the problem ( borrowing correctly moving forward ) led to this final configuration.

2 ) Due to the disgustingly protective rules governing student loans, I seemingly have no rights to manage this debt. I 'm not even asking that the debt be erased due to the incredibly shady way Key Bank secured the business of a good chunk of my incoming class ( I can only assume they paid for the privilege of being present during orientation to prey on the new, unaware students and parents ... ), though that would be really nice. I just want to be able to consolidate this debt with my federal loans to get them into a single account with a single servicer with a reasonable interest rate. I WANT to pay this debt back, but I need the tools to manage it, afforded to every other class of debt, but to which student loans seem to be the sole exception.

Issue: Managing an account

Subissue: Problem using a debit or ATM card

Consumer Complaint: As my current Debit card end date is expiring ( XX/XX/XXXX ) , I have requested for a new card by calling KEY BANK Customer care, called couple of times to check status on that, they have mentioned card is on it way, but i i never received it, after few weeks i got call from KEY BANK on XXXX XXXX , stating that there is some high amount of transaction is happening on my card. I have clearly mentioned then, i did n't received any card and i have no information on that and informed them to block it and block all transactions, but i found out that total {$9900.00}, transactions happened on my card on XXXX XXXX and XXXX XXXX , with out my knowledge and i have received single call about this. I was very much surprised and filed a case on KEY Bank Fraud department and provided all the required information and filed a police case as well at XXXX Police station. i have been trying to reach out to Fraud department agent since two weeks, he is not returning my call, to day i was able to hold of him by other agent and he rudely mentioned it as case is denied, so no refund will be made on my account.I have been with KEY bank more than 10 yrs and i am a key privilege account Holder and i have CD as well with bank, never ever have this type of reception from any one. He didnt gave me any valid reason for denying the case, police investigation is still in the process and he concluded the case and said it is denied and i do n't need to call him back on this.

Issue: Closing your account

Subissue: Can't close your account

Consumer Complaint: Today, XXXX XXXX, 2017 I received correspondence from Key Bank with information regarding a very old account I had with them maybe 20 years ago.

Its a statement regarding a World MasterCard. I had this card and a bank account with this bank but closed it.

The statement contains personal information i.e., last 4 digits of old account number and my present address.

I have called Key Bank 's XXXX # to try to get them to take my name out of their system. Their response was that they knew the letters were a mistake but could n't take me out of the system unless I gave them my full SSN over the phone. I did not feel comfortable doing so. But implored them to take me out of their system for fear of identity theft on this card that no longer exists.

I do not want anymore correspondence from them but NEED THEM TO TAKE ME OUT OF THEIR SYSTEM AND MAKE SURE THIS CARD NUMBER NO LONGER EXISTS!

Issue: Managing an account

Subissue: Banking errors

Consumer Complaint: In XX/XX/XXXX I responded to an offer from KeyBank to open a new account and receive a {$200.00} gift for meeting certain requirements : open a basic checking account by XX/XX/XXXX, and make one direct deposit of at least {$500.00} within 60 days of opening the account. I met those requirements : I opened the account XX/XX/XXXX and made a direct deposit of {$1000.00} on XX/XX/XXXX. However, KeyBank refuses to pay me the {$200.00}. On XX/XX/XXXX, I called KeyBank customer service at XXXX to inquire as to why I had not received my giftKeyBanks terms said I would be paid within 90 days of meeting the requirements, and it was past 90 days. The representative said I had not been enrolled in that program, and was not owed {$200.00}. When I disputed her observation, she instructed me to contact the branch where I opened the account. I opened the account at the branch located at XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX, OR XXXX. The banker who assisted me in opening the account was XXXX XXXX. I attempted to contact her on XX/XX/XXXX, and again on XX/XX/XXXX, but she did not respond to my emails. On XX/XX/XXXX, I called the branch manager, XXXX XXXX. He said he would look into the matter and get back to me, but over a week passed and I heard nothing. I called XXXX. XXXX again on XX/XX/XXXX. He informed me that, subsequent to his investigation, he was not going to pay me the promised gift of {$200.00}. His reason was that I had already received the gift on XX/XX/XXXX. However, as I told XXXX XXXX, that {$200.00} was not the gift, but a credit memo reimbursing me for XXXX counterfeit {$100.00} bills KeyBank had given me when I had made a withdrawal on XX/XX/XXXX. When I attempted to deposit the money at XXXX XXXX XXXX that same day, I was informed by the banker at XXXX, XXXX XXXX, that two of the {$100.00} bills I was given by KeyBank were counterfeit. XXXX XXXX confiscated the bills and informed me he would be submitting them to the FBI. I returned to KeyBank that same day to complain about what had happened. This complaintfurther discussed in emails with XXXX XXXX -- resulted in the credit memo for {$200.00} on XX/XX/XXXX. In an email dated XX/XX/XXXX, XXXX. XXXX indicated her superior, XXXX. XXXX, was assisting in the situation, and also assured me I would receive my separate {$200.00} gift by XX/XX/XXXX. This assurance has proven false. Despite the evidence KeyBank recognized there were two separate issuesthe counterfeit {$200.00} and the unpaid {$200.00} giftand that XXXX XXXX had prior knowledge of these issues, he stood by his refusal to pay me what I am owed. When I informed him I was taking my complaint to the CFPB, he said, Go ahead. So I have. Furthermore, on or about XX/XX/XXXX, XXXX XXXX applied for an unsecured personal loan on my behalf without my knowledge or consent. She claimed it was to help me with some credit card debt I had incurred, but I had merely wanted to discuss my options to mitigate that debt -- I never told her I wanted to apply for a loan. KeyBank rejected the application XXXX XXXX filed on XX/XX/XXXX. This loan application resulted in a hard inquiry on my credit report, which I did not want to incur. Finally, I have jpeg images of the counterfeit bills, but they are over 10MB each and will not upload to CFPB 's website. If KeyBank wants them, I can provide them. My hope is KeyBank, a multi-billion dollar corporation, will merely make right on this {$200.00} debt, rather than draw it out by requiring yet more evidence of the bank 's error.

Subissue: Can't use card to make purchases

Consumer Complaint: According to Key Bank - my MC issued by XXXX XXXX bank was closed because they received a report dated on XXXX XXXX ,2017 that I filed Chapter XXXX bankruptcy. Fact : I did filed a bankruptcy but that account was never included. The account that they closed was of good standing -just made a $ XXXX -payment. The credit limit was {$5000.00} and it has an outstanding balance of just over {$2000.00}. I can not access the account thru online banking and I only have those paperless banking so I do not have papers. I am trying to fix my credit and I have been keeping this account of good standing. I find it very unfair to just close the account that does not have a problem.
