Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed
Subissue: Debt is not yours
Consumer Complaint: I disputed items inaccurate on my credit report. Mainly debt not owed, or duplicated debt that shows paid off, and new debt from the same company appeared almost a year later. I asked for a signatures, agreements, purchase information such as who authorized, where items were bought, delivered to, picked up from- etc.The companies only provided me with monthly statements. I argued that this is not proof of a debt owed the company said that they verified my name and address so its considered valid. I explained that they are violating FCRA REGULATIONS. They said that they are well within their rights as a creditor/ credit reporting agency

Consumer Complaint: After I recently filed a complaint to Discover from the CFPB, they said they decided to close my account right after I filed that complaint. It's my right as a consumer for me to file a complaint without it adversely affecting me. I'm a college student and this was my first credit card, so it really helped my credit score, and this could really mess it up. I've paid the account balance off despite their lack of response to my first complaint where they put random charges in my account, so now not only do they owe me money, but they are messing up my credit score too. I am so upset and angry and this is really hurtful, I want assistance from someone in filing a lawsuit against this company if possible. How could they not even respond to my complaint and just close my account?

Consumer Complaint: I had a Discover card account open under my name which was closed, and the real account was also compromised with charges being made that were not mine, Discover initially investigated and set up a new account for me but a year later I was charged for a item from the prior account after I had notified them that some charges that they had removed were actually mine they kind it would be a matter of a few days until it was rectified, and I would receive a credit and my account balance would be corrected. I was also informed that it would not be reported as late or delinquent to the credit bureau yet I see it reported on my credit record. I notified them and ask them to rectify this and as of yet it has not been. Its been more than two months since Ive been working with them, and each time I call, I am giving different explanations in different timelines. Please assist in this matter again this is a long term repercussion after identity theft and I feel frustrated and trying to resolve this on my own with such results.
