Issue: Advertising and marketing, including promotional offers
Subissue: Confusing or misleading advertising about the credit card
Consumer Complaint: I am a current Discover card holder and I became aware of an advertisement on their website for a rewards perk of 5 % cashback bonus. In the fine print it shows that it is for Discover it & discover more cardmembers. I have a Discover IT card currently and as I attempted to activate this advertised rewards bonus I was given and error message on the next webpage that stated " Oops. Something went wrong. We apologize for any inconvenience, but the rewards calendar is not working at this time. Please check again later. '' Which ok, technical issues do happen, so I gave it some time and checked back periodically every couple hours and encountered the same message each time. I thought maybe it was just an online issue with their website so I called into the customer service number from their website. I was told by customer service that i have something called a Discover IT XXXX account and was thereby not eligible for the rewards bonus that was being marketed. Discover IT being in the fine print of the XXXX XXXX XXXX 's and also in the name of my account I was very confused and taken aback by this comment. There is no statements regarding ineligibility of my or any other specific type of " IT '' account and in addition on the Discover brand website there is no type of credit card listed as Discover IT only thus indicating that any account featured as a Discover IT account would be eligible. Furthermore, had I not called in, the sham technical difficulties message that their website was spewing out at me was also false and misleading. This is a highly deceptive marketing ploy and I am honestly surprised about how incredibly inept the Discover marketing team has to be in order to let this get publicly marketed.

Issue: Problem with a purchase shown on your statement
Subissue: Card was charged for something you did not purchase with the card
Consumer Complaint: My Discover Card was charged with purchases I did not make. I contacted Discover and they initially gave me a credit. I asked them to close the account and they said I didn't have to close the account due to the fraud, that they would handle it. All purchases were reported and they assured me they will take care of it. They issued a replacement account and then put all of those fraudulent charges on the replacement account. I tried to dispute again but they didn't take care of it. I ended up paying a total of {$1100.00} between the fraud and the interest.

Issue: Problem with a purchase shown on your statement
Subissue: Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement
Consumer Complaint: This complaint concerns a product I purchased last year and my unsuccessful attempts to get my money back. Im dissatisfied with the product, as well as the actions/treatment from several companies related to the product. The parties involved are Discover Card, XXXX and XXXX. On XX/XX/21 I ordered a pair of brand new XXXX 's XXXX Regular-fit Non-stretch Straight Leg Zip fly Jeans Rinse Wash ( Size XXXX ) from an online retailer ( XXXX ) for a total of {$29.00}. Upon receiving them, I discovered that they were too small for me. Normally, a size XXXX or XXXX pair of XXXX jeans fit me well, but not in this case. Instead of going through the hassle of returning the jeans and getting store credit for them instead of a refund ( which is often the case with the particular online retailer mentioned above ), I tried selling them on XXXX. Upon receipt of the said jeans, the XXXX buyer accused me of selling fake/counterfeit XXXX jeans and then returned the pair back to me. I then contacted Discover Card to dispute the charge of the jeans, as I didn't want the jeans nor did I want a pair that could be counterfeit. Per Discover XXXX suggestion to try and work things out with the retailer, I contacted XXXX. They refused to take the jeans back, citing their XXXX return policy. Discover Card sided with XXXX and closed the dispute. Moreover, Discover Card said that they couldnt credit my account as the charge was more than 120 days old. This is not acceptable to me. I do not want the jeans. They do not fit me and Im not satisfied with the product. Furthermore, I question the authenticity of the product. The tags are still attached to the item and have not been worn. Im willing to send the jeans back to XXXX or XXXX. Nevertheless, I want either Discover Card, XXXX or XXXX to refund me my money ( no store credit ) in full. Thank you.

Subissue: Company closed your account
Consumer Complaint: Discover closed my account on XX/XX/2018 due to doing a random credit pull that I did not authorize. This situation is disappointing to me because I was in good standing with this bank. Whats even more disappointing was they didnt even provide me with prior notice that they were closing my account.

Consumer Complaint: I placed a domestic wire transfer on XX/XX/2022, and until now ( XX/XX/2022 ) they are not able to see where the funds are even after placing a trace on the wire transfer. The beneficiary has not received the funds and they already pulled them from my account on XX/XX/XXXX, the day I placed the wire transfer. I called almost everyday to check if there has been any update, but every call it ends up being the same thing being either " no update yet '' or " we can place another update request '' and it has been those two responses over and over for the past few weeks.
