Issue: Opening an account
Subissue: Confusing or missing disclosures
Consumer Complaint: I have a long-time joint Discover on-line savings account with my husband in which he is the primary and I am the secondary owner. In two separate phone conversations with Discover, my husband asked if I was able to receive a bonus by opening a new account in my name. He was told yes, I could open an account because I am the secondary owner on our joint account. I am interested in opening a savings account as primary owner using {$150.00} bonus code XXXX. In preparation for opening up my own account and to transact on our joint account I registered for an on-line account, in which our joint account is listed. When I looked at the terms of the bonus, the text ( attached ) specifically states " Eligibility is based on primary owner ''. As two Discover phone representatives indicated, I should be eligible for the bonus because I am the primary owner on the new account and secondary owner on the Joint Account. During the on-line process ( attached ), my eligibility was deemed ineligible because of my joint account. When I called Discover, the representative indicated that I am listed as primary on the Joint account in MY on-line account and therefore are ineligible.

Consumer Complaint: I paid off my entire balance with Discover card, then I accepted a 0.0 % balance transfer for 1 year. Since that time period they have continued to charge me XXXX cents a month as a minimum interest charge rate. They keep saying that I haven't paid off the prior interest charges and the minimum balance goes towards paying off interest charges first. I HAVE NO INTEREST CHARGES and the balance is not paying off anything. This is deceptive trade practices saying XXXX wont be charged any interest charges when in fact I am.

Consumer Complaint: I have a discover credit card. I got an email from discover saying consolidate debt with low interest rate. I clicked the button to investigate the offer. I entered some info next thing I knew they ran my credit. Ok fine. Then after going through the process I got an email from discover home loans. I was confused. Turns out they werent offering me debt consolidation but rather a home equity loan. I did not want and would not have applied for a heloc. When I went back to the original email I noticed in big bold letters it mentioned low rates and consolidating and in small letters it mentioned tap home equity. I then also noticed that at the bottom Of the email it said the email was about my credit card ending in the last 4 digits. I feel discovers marketing team set up their email to be deceptive pretending this was just a regular loan when in fact they were planning to attach themselves to my home which i co own with my partner. I think they should be more up front and should send emails even introductory emails from discover home loans not under the disguise of my credit card. They purposely aimed to deceive me into applying for what I thought was a regular loan. Then when I emailed them to withdraw the application they didnt and continued to email me to give them more info for my application. I then had to speak to two people to get them to cancel the loan. I shouldnt have to ask twice.

Consumer Complaint: This is an update to CFPB Complaint No. XXXX. This update includes an amended billing address. Hi, I recently opened a bank account with XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX ( XXXX XXXX XXXX ). During the account opening process I was told that deposited checks would be credited within five days. Last week I made a check deposit and after five days I made a payment of {$200.00} via ACH to Discover in order to open a secured Credit Card. Today, I found out that XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX did not credit my check deposit within the time period I was told. As a result, I was charged a {$35.00} dollar transaction fee and my {$200.00} XXXX to Discover was executed and then reversed. Moreover, a review of XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX transaction handling history appears to show that this bank is ordering debits to be withdrawn in the beginning of the day and credits to be granted at the end of the day. This transaction ordering puts me at a significant disadvantage and cost me : {$35.00} dollars and the likely denial of my Discover Secured Card application.

Consumer Complaint: I have been contacting Discover for several months to update my address since I did not receive a statement. My address was not updated and I never received a billing statement. I noticed on my credit report that they reported my account as past due. I contacted them to pay the bill and they offered me a settlement amount which I paid. I was advised that my account would be reaged since per the FCRA, they could not report me as past due since I did not receive a statement. I received the attached letter to confirm my account was settled but when I contacted them back they advised they had no record of updating my credit history. Cleary, I had the ability to pay over $ XXXX for the debit but once they took my money, I feel like I was deceived and they will not take the responsibility to resolve an easy issue.
