Issue: Problem with a purchase shown on your statement
Subissue: Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement
Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2021 a charge was made on my discover card in the amount of XXXX At the time my ex-girlfriend lived with me and was using my personal information to obtain credit card and use my cards for a fee for her associates to support her addiction. I became aware when I received a letter with a pin number for a XXXX credit card that I never applied for. Since I did not know the extent of the damage, I contacted XXXX who forwarded me a detailed credit report. It was a long process to get those opened cards closed. However, discover has been nothing but difficult with getting that large purchase removed. The more I tried the more Discover Card penalized me by lowering my credit limit and increasing my APR. Not only have I been suffering by trying to pay the high interest on a purchase I never made, but It has also made my utilization higher in which ruined my credit score. I also have another credit card from Discover not opened by me that I was lucky to have closed yet it has also affected my score. I had to take out a loan recently to have discover paid off in full because with the interest and fees I have paid them twice for that fraudulent purchase that I received not benefit from.

Consumer Complaint: Discover card again has negatively impacted my credit and credit report. The card was just opened the beginning of this month and when I spoke to customer service I was informed the balance would not be reported or reflected until the 10th of each month with my new due date of the 5th of each month. Now they have reported my card early and caused me to have a negative impact on my credit score partially to now showing over credit utilization. The fact that they purposely lied to me and reported a higher credit usage before Ive had a chance to pay the balance down is absurd and unethical. I will be escalating this matter further with investigation agencies and looking into legal representation for the continuing credit harassment and discrimination I am undergoing from the treatment and misinformation provided by discover card. This is the only card Ive had in my life that has caused such a nasty and negative impact on my credit in such a short time frame. What a lying XXXX deceptive company.
