Issue: Took or threatened to take negative or legal action

Subissue: Threatened or suggested your credit would be damaged

Consumer Complaint: Received a letter from a company named Jefferson Capital Systems LLC claiming that I owed just under {$150.00} for an unpaid cell phone bill from XXXX XXXX When I contacted the company to inquire about the debt, I was transferred to a call center in XXXX who gave told me that they were going to report the debt to the credit agencies if I did not pay them the debt immediately. Since I had not had any cellular service with XXXXXXXX XXXXr since XXXX, nor had the company ever attempted to contact me in any way claiming that I had an unpaid balance, I was obviously very skeptical. Knowing that this was likely a scam at this point, I then contacted XXXX XXXX directly to inquire if they had any record of any outstanding balance due on my old account. They pulled my old account data and confirmed that there was no balance due, nor did they report any debt to any collection agency. When I contacted Jefferson Capital Systems back and confirmed to them that XXXX XXXX informed me that there was no debt nor had they been hired to collect such debt, the representative became very hostile before stating that they would just " forgive '' the debt. It appears very likely that this outfit has somehow obtained a list of XXXX XXXX 's old customers and is attempting to scam them out of small amounts which would be similar to that of an XXXX so that the victim doesn't ask any questions or contact the company to verify the debt. I guess we can add this to the endless number of debt collection scams out there predating on hard-working Americans.

Issue: Incorrect information on your report

Subissue: Information belongs to someone else

Consumer Complaint: I never signed the contract for the loan on this vehicle. My signature on the contract would not be my signature if I did not sign the contact. This account was open by fraud and XXXX was under a multi-million dollar class action lawsuit for very similar practices. The account was sold to Jefferson Capital in which I never received anything in the mail advising me of these details. I do not have a contract with this company as well. I have attempted to make contact several times and disputed with the credit reporting agencies as well.
