Issue: Fees or interest
Subissue: Problem with fees
Consumer Complaint: I pay my balances every month so I do not incur interest fees. This month I paid the balance of the card, and 7 days later I was informed that the bank returned the incoming payment. It was not due to lack of funds- apparently there was a routing issue. I received a return check fee and interest fee I called and told the credit card company and they said they could not explain what happened and saw that I paid down the card to a XXXX balance but could not reverse any of the fees even though it was not of any fault of my own. I canceled the account and will vow never to do business with Citi for credit cards again but thought this was predatory in nature. I can afford to pay off my cards and balances but some can not. If they are treating me this way I can only image the horrors others are going through.

Consumer Complaint: I signed up and transferred {$20000.00} into Citibank with the promise of {$150.00} cash bonus.Three months have gone by and I called to see where the bonus is, they no of nothing. They told me to talk to the promo people who dont know anything about it as well. The next day I look at my Citibank app and account has vanished.I call them up again and they tell me there is a investigation into the account and it is locked with no access. They say it will take 24-48 hrs to investigate. That window has passed and still no access, its not back on the Citi app or online, its gone with no warning, no information given, they wont give me any details whatsoever. This is highly disturbing, my money is gone with no explanation. All I have is a ATM card to prove this is mine.

Issue: Getting a credit card
Subissue: Sent card you never applied for
Consumer Complaint: I have a Macy 's XXXX credit card, which I've had for a number of years. I recently went into a store to make a purchase. The sales rep informed me that I was qualified for an " upgrade '' to my Macy 's account and that I'd save an additional 20 % discount on my purchase for upgrading. I asked if there where any fees or anything else that I should be aware of and she said, " No. '' She said that I needed to verify and update some of my personal information, which I did. I then electronically signed what I thought was my purchase receipt. The sales rep put all of the printed receipts in the bag with my purchase. When I got home my wife looked at what I'd purchased and the receipts and asked why I got an XXXX XXXX Credit Card. I was shocked to learn that my " upgrade '' was actually a fraudulent application that involved a credit check. My credit score has been negatively impacted as a result and if I close the account it will be further damaged. I'm not even sure if the injury that I've suffered can be remedied.

Issue: Problem with a credit reporting company's investigation into an existing problem
Subissue: Their investigation did not fix an error on your report
Consumer Complaint: I am writing to you to report an unjustified derogatory statement on my credit report, which remains on my credit bureau report, including XXXX XXXX. The comment is an error because XXXX XXXX CBNA ( Citibank ) credited the wrong account for {$2300.00}. The error resulted in late fees and interest charges on an incorrect balance, as Citibank had not credited my account. Citibank received a check from XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX on my behalf on XX/XX/XXXX, cashed it on XX/XX/XXXX, and credited it to another account error. As a result, late payments were reported in error to the credit bureaus, adversely affecting my credit ratings from the high XXXX to the mid and high XXXX. Since providing evidence of payments and disputing the derogatory comments on my credit report, Citibank has finally corrected their error and credited my account for the {$2300.00} and all late fees and interest charges, demonstrating that I was not in error in my dispute. However, the credit bureau, XXXX, has declined to fix the problem because of incomplete information about the dispute provided by Citibank. They needed to report an accurate outstanding balance, the reimbursed late fees and interest charges, and a full accounting and admission of the errors by the bank. I

Consumer Complaint: A purchase was made with Wayfair in the amount of {$93.00} and charged to my Wayfair Mastercard Account issued by Citibank. The merchandise was returned to Wayfair via XXXX after calling Wayfair to advise them of the return. I was sent a XXXX XXXX via email and the item was picked up on XX/XX/XXXX by XXXX, and received by Wayfair on XX/XX/XXXX. I did not receive credit for the return and initiated a dispute with Citibank Wayfair on XX/XX/XXXX. To date, I have not received a credit for the return, nor a temporary credit during the dispute investigation by Citi. On XXXX Citi added an additional charge to my account in the amount of the initial purchase for another {$93.00} which leaves me with a balance of 2 X {$93.00}. I am getting nowhere attempting to contact Citi myself. I have faxed them proof of pickup and delivery of the item and the receipt at the warehouse by Wayfair 4 times. I faxed the info twice and sent it via US mail in hard copy two times as well. I contacted the bank today and received absolutely no explanation for the incompetent handling of my account, nor an explanation of why I have now been double charged for the original item returned and did not receive the temporary credit for {$93.00} during the investigation process. I was hung up on 4 times by representatives, XXXX, XXXX, XXXX, and XXXX. I still have no resolution to dispute that was initiated over 60 days ago.

Issue: Written notification about debt
Subissue: Didn't receive notice of right to dispute
Consumer Complaint: XXXX XXXX XXXX, Colorado, allegedly purchased my credit card debt from Citibankn in XXXX. I defaulted in XXXX. I received one letter from an attorney representing XXXX XXXX XXXX then a month later a suit was filed against me in XXXX. I never received any documentation showing proof of the debt purchase. Out of fear, I didn't attend the hearing. A default judgement was issued and the judge awarded 27.24 % interest based on a sample credit card agreement presented by the Plantiff. It was not my credit card agreement. I wasn't informed of the decision to award 27.24 % instead of the statutory rate of 8 % for Colorado. Shortly thereafter the case was assigned to another attorney. That attorney firm, XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX, called me at work and harassed me attempting to scare me with the amount increasing rapidly. Despite my calls to XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX attempting to settle the debt when it was XXXX XXXX they refused every offer I made and never gave me a counter offer. They made no real attempts to settle for anything but less than the full amount. ( the default was XXXX XXXX ). Then they stopped contacting me all together. I didn't hear anything again from them since XXXX. In XXXX they revived the judgement at XXXX XXXXXXXX but still made no attempts to settle. In XXXX, my case was assigned to yet another attorney. This current attorney also asked me if I could make payments or an offer. I did and he didn't accept it. I didn't hear anything from him until a year later when he requested the judgement be revived. The judge awarded the revival to the Plantiff and now the debt is XXXX XXXX. This attorney has vowed to continue to revive and pursue judgement for as long as it takes. My major complaint is that I believe with collection efforts being minimal and refusing to accept any offers, they were intentionally building interest as they knew that at that rate, this debt could escalate to a significant amount of money, and it has. I believe this was a strategy and intentional hoping that they could capitalize on any potential assets I may have at a later date. I believe this to be a very abusive practice, not only refusing every offer I made but no contact for over 10 years. The judge in the revival hearing even mentioned that he believed this is what happened, without my even prompting him. I am now in a position where the debt they're pursuing isn't even realistic and they are continuing all of their collection efforts, including a garnishment of my wages. I can't even believe I'm in this position as I made multiple attempts to resolve this many years ago. The current attorney has vowed to continue collection efforts for as long as it takes. Meanwhile, the interest is accruing as I type this and I am now at a point that reaching an agreement that is within my means is impossible, even 30, 40 or 50 % of what I'm showed owing isn't a realistic goal for me.
