Issue: Trouble using your card
Subissue: Can't use card to make purchases
Consumer Complaint: I made a payment of XXXX on XX/XX/2022 which was the full balance of my express credit card. Today is XX/XX/2022 and I went to use my credit card for a purchase and it was declined due even though I had just used it for {$25.00} for an online order in store. It would not allow me to make the remaining {$260.00} purchase even though my account reflects an available balance of {$270.00}. I called the credit card company ( comenity bank/bread financial ) and they said that the account was suspended. I asked how I used it for the {$25.00} and they couldnt give me an answer. Theyre holding my money hostage, I was not notified at the time of payment that it wasnt going to be available immediately, furthermore this has never happened before so why now?

Issue: Incorrect information on your report
Subissue: Account status incorrect
Consumer Complaint: Comenity Bank ( now Bread Financial ) supposedly had issues with their system upgrade starting back around XXXX or XXXX of XXXX When I tried to log on and pay my bill in XXXX I discovered the issues, which the company readily admitted through social media posts and comments to customer complaints listed there. I was finally able to log on and made a minimum payment. My account has always been in good standing. However, in XXXX this company hard-pulled my credit WITHOUT MY PERMISSION and NOT PER MY REQUEST. I decided at that time I might be in danger of identity theft and placed a credit freeze through XXXX, paid off the entire Comenity Balance and closed that account. Though the company did send a physical letter to my home address stating the account was closed and they would report to the credit bureaus, they have not done so now close to three months later. Not only does this account still show as open on my credit report, it shows that I owe a balance. This company also tried to charge me interest and late charges when the pay-off was made well before the due date and never been late. I did finally get them to refund those charges. Today I called again and asked why they are showing this as an open account and with a balance. I could not get a straight answer as to when it will be removed on my credit report, and these are unfair, corrupt and possibly illegal credit reporting practices.

Consumer Complaint: I entered into a hardship payment plan with Comenitybank/wayfair in XX/XX/XXXX, agreeing to pay {$98.00} per month, I was told this would satisfy the account which at that time was past due less than 3 months related to covid and a job loss. The payments were auto debited from my checking account and I have never missed a payment. However, Comenity is now saying I owed more than {$98.00} per month and that is why it was " late ''. I was never informed when the hardship agreement was made of additional money due, in fact I was told, the agreement brings the account current, to begin the hardship plan, for the {$98.00} per month. It makes zero sense to enter into a {$98.00} per month payment plan, if it essentially leaves your account still behind. It was hard enough losing my job and having to call for a payment plan, the woman told me the {$98.00} was all I needed to pay per month for the plan. I was never told there would be any " additional '' amounts due, so once the auto debit was set up I assumed the account had been satisfied. However, my credit report now reflects I paid late every month I paid the auto debited {$98.00} agreed upon payment plan. This is because there apparently was additional money Comenity wanted outside of the hardship plan, or the plan was not processed correctly, I am not sure what the issue is on their end, but I know I was NEVER told anything else was due, when the agree was initiated and in the agreement document. In the beginning in XXXX of XXXX Comenity " charged off '' the account, all while I continued to pay {$98.00} per month as agreed upon. I have also never received any communications from them about the " charge off '' or who now holds the debt, although my checking account is still debited every month for {$98.00}. I filed a dispute through XXXX explaining all of this with documentation and nothing changed, Comenity has put " XXXX XXXX '' on my credit report for the last 8 months in a row, even though I have paid every month as agreed upon beginning in XX/XX/XXXX.

Consumer Complaint: On XXXX I formally requested a refund for an overpayment on a credit account to Comenity Capital Bank, a subsidiary of Bread Financial FKA Alliance Data. The account balance had already been paid prior to their systems auto-payment withdraw. Comenity Bank processed the automatic payment as well and now shows the credit account with a balance of - {$220.00} and a credit limit of {$720.00} ( originally {$500.00}. ) I requested the overpayment of {$220.00} be refunded to the account used to make the payment and that they make this action within 7 days of receipt. On XXXX I received a reply through their electronic messaging system that they : " won't collect the amount in question or report you as delinquent to the credit reporting agencies. '' I attempted to contact them again on XXXX and XXXX again explaining that my account was not delinquent, it was in fact over-paid. On XXXX I finally received a reply from a representative that they did acknowledge the original dispute date of XXXX that they would notify me of their findings within 90 days by US mail, again stating " won't collect the amount in question or report you as delinquent to the credit reporting agencies. Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/22 I paid the {$110.00} balance on my Ann Taylor account by check payable to Ann Taylor. On XX/XX/22 I received a past due notice. I called and was told my payment had been credited by Comenity Bank to my J Crew account, not my Ann Taylor account. Comenity repeatedly offered a refund that I could use to re-pay the original Ann Taylor balance, but I was told that if I took it I would be liable for penalties and interest. Instead, I filed a dispute which was acknowledged by Comenity by letter of XX/XX/22. This process was repeated on XX/XX/22 and XX/XX/22. On XX/XX/22, I received a refund from Comenity without explanation. I called and was disconnected. I emailed and received no response. After a week of silence, I emailed again and said I would replace the original payment but I would not pay the erroneously charged penalties and interest and would file this complaint. I then received a response that Comenity was researching my dispute and I could expect no resolution for 90 days. I expressed concern that the refund they sent was inconsistent with the dispute I filed and appeared to put me in a position to be liable for penalties and interest. My concerns have not been addressed.

Consumer Complaint: In XXXX I made a payment on my XXXX XXXX card, which is issued by Comenity Bank. It was a {$60.00} payment, the store never applied it to the balance and I began having late fees accrue. I told the company I had the receipt and tried on multiple occasions to prove that I had made the payment. I also made it clear that I would not give more money until the company showed that the money I had already paid was applied to the account and late fees removed. I have had conflicting information from different offices within the bank. One woman told me the account was closed and has a zero balance, another said she removed the late fees, and another said they arent able to remove late fees.
