Issue: Opening an account
Subissue: Account opened as a result of fraud
Consumer Complaint: In XXXX of XXXX, I noticed that I had received a Bank of America Statement that notified me that I had a negative balance on a Checking Account that I had not opened nor had I consented to open with Bank of America. I began tracing its origins and found an email from XX/XX/2023, at XXXX XXXX that an " Online Application is in Progress '' and immediately after at XXXX XXXX another email that " Your application was approved. '' On XX/XX/2023, I went to a Bank of America physical branch ( in person ) and asked an employee for help getting through to a customer service agent to help me learn more about this new account that I did not open. After talking to 2 different agents, in addition to the bank employee, I was finally redirected to the Fraud department. There was a case opened and they were supposed to close it without it affecting my credit score. As of now, the account is still open and I still receive paper statements over the mail. I have kept a close eye on my credit and have requested multiple credit reports throughout these months and nothing else has been opened. My conclusion is that Bank of America opened this account without my consent and has kept it open accumulating fees even after reporting it as fraud.

Consumer Complaint: Im reaching out because I was a victim of fraud. I was naive enough to think I was recently accepted to get a loan deposited to my bank account at Bank of America. It started on XX/XX/XXXX the person posing as a XXXX XXXX XXXX rep got my information ( which I shouldnt have done ) and started making claims and disputes with my transactions in my account, when the bank initially gave me the credit on the disputes they made. They then told me they was sending me money for me to moneygram them to a credit bureau. I shouldve known better and they made three transactions like this for {$900.00}, {$820.00}, {$820.00}. And the bank end up closing my account and after they saw my bank statement and I was proving that it was not me making the disputes and claims and transactions they still couldnt find a solution for me besides to file a police report. And when I went to do that the local police department told me they couldnt really do anything. I dont know what to do

Consumer Complaint: My name is XXXX XXXX and I made a bank deposit last Thursday on XX/XX/XXXX through the Atm at the Bank of America in XXXX, Tx on XXXX XXXX.I put my debit card into the ATM machine and Deposited {$300.00} for some reason the ATM started glitching and never gave me a receipt but it did eject my ATM card back out..I then proceeded to call the Bank of America to let them know what happened and they filed a claim and said I would see a credit for XXXX the following the day, when I went to check my account the credit was not in my account, So I called Bank of America again and they said they would not be able to credit my account until they finished their investigation..I think they are being unfair this was my money that their ATM basically stole from me and they are not wanting to credit my account while they are doing their investigations, that is a big inconvenience for me because that was all the money I had for the week, they said it could take up to XXXX buisness Days to see any kind of credits/ or Adjustments..Pease help, as a consumer I think this is injustice considering us people that live from Check to Check, just because their a Big Corporation does not mean they can or should treat us this way, its not fair please help with this situation.. Kindest Regards, XXXX XXXX

Issue: Fraud or scam

Consumer Complaint: I'm a victim of job scam with check fraud. XXXX XXXXXXXX posed as an online interview XXXX and offered me remote jobs and he mailed me a phony check of {$4800.00} to buy working supplies. On XX/XX/2023, while I received this check, I went to local bank branch to verify it, but no one helped me or gave me any advice that just tell me that you should wait for 14 days for check to be really clear in case check fraud. I was left helpless, uncertain on this check. I called bank 's costumer service for help, and they said this check looked nothing wrong based on their experience so that I was gave a false sense of security that this check was secured on my account at the time. And that's the main reason why I was conned into sending money to scammer next day. On XX/XX/2023, I called fraud department of Bank of America to make a claim for XXXX transfer of {$3500.00} right away as soon as I realized it was fraudulent transaction. I spoke to XXXX, the first representative, she told me my lost funds will be recovered but it takes for 10 days or up to 60-90 days to process and got my XXXX claim number is XXXX XXXX. During the process of XXXX claim, I kept track on its status and faxed police report, FBI report, counterfeit checks, XXXX report, FTC report, AGO consumer complaint and screenshots of chat records with fraudster that showed how he manipulated and exploited me into sending money that serve as the evidence of scam and check fraud to fraud claim department. However, Bank told me that they did not need any supporting documents on XXXX claim and they only investigated whether the transfer was authorized and not based on the circumstances of I was defrauded. On XX/XX/2023, I received notice stating that " We've completed our review of your claim. Our records indicate that we completed the transfer according to the instructions you provided us, and therefore no error occurred. Based on this, your account won't be credited. '' After Bank 's failure of the second attempt to recall my lost funds, Bank sent the final response to XXXX claim on XX/XX/2023, it stated that my lost funds were unsuccessful recovered because transactions posted on my account were valid and no errors occurred, so they suggested me to contact recipient to try to get my money back. This final resolution was totally unreasonable and unrealistic. How come a XXXX XXXXXXXX would return the stolen money to victim. Obviously, Bank did not properly handle XXXX scam and fraud and did not came up with a reasonable and acceptable final solution.
