Issue: Closing an account
Subissue: Can't close your account
Consumer Complaint: In XX/XX/XXXX my stolen identity information was used to open a checking account at Bank of America. I spent countless hours on the phone with them attempting to resolve it to no avail. I went in person to a branch on XX/XX/XXXX to get it sorted out and was assured it would be taken care of. Its XXXX now and I am still getting account balance statements from BoFA who have clearly not closed this fraudulent account. Going into a branch again I get stonewalled by tellers and managers who cant be bothered to help me get this done. Bank of America does not take identity theft seriously and should not be allowed to do business.

Subissue: Problem with rewards from credit card
Consumer Complaint: My name is XXXX XXXX. Bank of America made the fraud on my earning from " cash reward credit card ''. BoA sent me a " Cash Reward Credit Card promotion letter " on XXXX. XXXX that promised 3 % cash back on traveling purchase and others... ETC. so i applied this cash reward credit card soon. But after i used the new card to purchase the airline tickets on XXXX XXXX and XXXX XXXX which's total {$1100.00}. There are no any cash back earning on my account. Showing " XXXX '' on cash back earning. I have called the BoA consumer service XXXX. They refused to issued any reward earning to me. The reason they claimed was '' I didn't pick up the purchase choice on traveling category before made the purchase. '' When i did activate the new credit card through the phone of BoA. The AI message just said " You can use your cash rewards card to make a purchase Right NOW '' without mentioning anything else like " you must make your purchase choice on " traveling category " on your account online before you make that type purchase. It doesn't make any sense for credit card holders in normal. The BoA is definitely fraud on unacknowledged to customers in advance then refused to redeem their promised rewards.

Issue: Opening an account
Subissue: Account opened as a result of fraud
Consumer Complaint: Bank of america allowed a bank account to be opened in my name. I called and they stated there was no add'l account but i had several emails stating it was opened online. In the weeks prior to the account being opened, i received fraudulent charges and the bank of america representative was not helpful in helping me with my issues. I asked why this kept happening to me and how it was an inconvenience to have to continuously change my debit cards, they had no response and no way to assure me the account or my information was safe. Unfortunately, a bank account was opened and i received no guidance, I had to call back a few weeks later due to the fact I received a statement for said account and the representative i spoke to advised me to file a police report because they could not be sure if my information was indeed secure. Also BOA has been the absolute worse at NSF, they WOULD OVER CHARGE AND CONTINUOUSLY CHARGE FEES.

Issue: Problem with a lender or other company charging your account
Subissue: Money was taken from your account on the wrong day or for the wrong amount
Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2023, the company XXXX XXXX, double charged me {$120.00} for drinks that I purchased on that date. I disputed it with Bank of America that they double charged me. They ended up " resolving '' the claim since the merchant provided receipts. I looked over the receipts I notice both receipts have handwriting that looks nothing like mine. For the first receipt : the amount charged was {$120.00}. It clearly says on the receipt that it was a duplicated receipt ( not the original ). The bill is supposed to be {$60.00}, but they made a duplicate receipt and tipped themselves {$60.00} in a handwriting that looks nothing like mine. I usually appropriately tip but a {$60.00} tip on top of a {$60.00} bill for bad service is definitely not something I would do. For the second receipt : the amount on my BANK statement is {$120.00}. Again, not my handwriting. They tipped themselves {$55.00} on a {$70.00} bill, which makes no sense because they clearly write {$120.00} on the bill. They forged my signature and incorrectly put the total amount. This alone is a clear indicator that they tipped themselves. I read online that Bank of America will usually side with the merchant since I was there at that date and I did not lose my card so it will most likely be a lost situation for me. I unfortunately did not take a picture of my receipt, but I will now on future international travels.
