Issue: Fees or interest
Subissue: Charged too much interest
Consumer Complaint: I used my AMEX H-Y Savings Account to pay off my balance ( {$780.00} ) due on XX/XX/2023. I erroneously entered one digit wrong, so Amex charged me a late fee ( which they reversed ) and interest charge of XXXX XXXX ). On XX/XX/2023 I was notified by Amex, so I immediately contacted Amex to fix the problem. AMEX refused to refund the XXXX XXXX interest charge. I paid in full my XX/XX/2023 balance ( {$1800.00} ). For my XX/XX/2023 statement, I noticed that AMEX charged me interest ( {$23.00} ) because their system automatically charges interest on any balances AFTER a LATE FEE has been assessed on the credit card and for the NEXT TWO BILLING CYCLE, even though I have paid off my XX/XX/XXXX statement balance. AMEX is ILLEGALLY charging interest on charges made to a credit card WITHOUT notifying the consumer ( ME ) and before the statement due date ( without any notification, ie., no statement ). I want my {$23.00} interest reversed by AMEX and I want CFPB to assess fines on AMEX illegal business practices.

Consumer Complaint: I received an email stating it was a balance statement regarding my American Express Serve prepaid credit card account. Since I had not opened an account I was curious. I checked out the email and went to Company website ( using separate browser tab, not through links provided ). I located " contact us '' info and called the hotline. After navigating the menu lists to reach a real person I related the fact that I had not opened said account. The first lady I talked to located that account using only my name and email address ( both of which were already in the email so I had no problem providing that info ), and sent me to the " fraud protection department ''. Once there the lady there again asked for my email. I provided it again. She then wanted me to provide the last four digits of my social security number and my home address, both of which I refused to give since I was reporting a fraudulent card and had not provided that information to start with. I then asked it she had information on where said card was being used, she said she did but could not answer any questions until I verified my identity. I responded " I didn't open this account so you shouldn't have any of my info anyway, I'm not providing that. '' At which point she hung up on me. Number called was XXXX.

Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed
Subissue: Debt was paid
Consumer Complaint: Several times in the last 3 years I have communicated and spoken with representatives of the XXXX XXXX XXXX organization. I signed a contract with them to pay my debt to American Express for less than I owed. They continued to negotiate with American Express on behalf of me to settle a debt as American Express would not negotiate any less. I could only afford {$640.00} per month no matter what was negotiated. I am a XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX women with limited XXXX XXXX and XXXX. During that time they allowed me to be summons to court. They found a local attorney to represent me. Unfortunately they also negotiated another agreement with XXXX XXXX XXXX ( attorneys for American Express ) which I also signed. At the time I did not understand that this agreement would have me paying approximately {$10000.00} more than my original debt to American Express! I know ignorance is no excuse. I always told them my intention was always to pay my debt that was due. I thought they had my best interests while negotiating on my behalf. I was wrong. When I realized the mistake, I terminated my contract with XXXX XXXX XXXX and contacted XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXX myself. They were reasonable and agreed to settle for 50 % of what I still owed. As a result of working with XXXX, I will still be paying approximately {$3000.00} more than my original debt to American Express, which was XXXX. I have no other debts.

The Merchant, XXXX, told me that was for a traffic citation. I asked for a copy of the citation from police, they did not have one. I asked XXXX how they charged me if they do not have citation, no expiations was provided. I told them since they do not have the citation and or proof, I will dispute the charges. I did file dispute with American Express, after about a month, merchant sent American Express my rental agreement with explanation of why they charge my account, WITHOUT providing any citations from police. As a result of this response, American Express took XXXX XXXX side and closed my dispute in favor of XXXX. I spoke to American Express to reopen the dispute but, they did not re-open the dispute, ( called on XX/XX/2023 at around XXXXXXXX XXXX, spoke to a person introduced himself as XXXX ).

Consumer Complaint: My name is XXXX XXXX. Ive been in contact with the American Express customer service team regarding the welcome bonus on my Hilton XXXX XXXX with American Express. While the Diamond status, annual free night reward, and the point bonuses were the most exciting aspects of the card, the welcome bonus was also enticing. Having read about the card online, I was aware that if American Express planned to deny a sign up bonus, a popup would appear when applying for the card. When this pop-up didnt appear, I was elated, assuming I would qualify for the bonus and could use Hilton points for XXXX vacation stays. I have used the card religiously since acquiring it, knowing Id hit the spend easily and racking up points with the rewards features. However, when the 3 months ended after Id hit the bonus, I started to wonder when my XXXX points would finally post. After a while, I contacted American Express to be told that my account was not approved for the signup bonus. This was a huge surprise to me. After going through multiple rounds of contact with American Express, I was told that I would not receive a bonus for several reasons : ( 1 ) I had already used too many Amex bonus offers ( 2 ) I had transferred points away from American Express ( 3 ) I had cancelled too many cards ( 4 ) I hadnt used my previous American Express cards enough. Regarding point # 1, I only have one previous Amex card - the cash magnet which I used as my primary card for several years. I dont remember if there was a sign-up bonus, but if there was, it was small. To point # 2, I have never transferred points from Amex to other carriers. On my cash magnet, I have only taken the Cashback after hitting {$25.00} and on the XXXX card I have always used the points with Hilton. On # 3, I have only ever cancelled one credit card, a XXXX card with XXXX XXXX which I cancelled because my wife is a photographer and she travels way more than I do as an attorney so we decided to have her sign up for the card instead of me to take advantage of the travel perks that were only available to cardholders. To # 4, admittedly I have dropped the usage of my cash magnet card in recent years because of other cards I opened that have better cash back. However, the XXXX card is the card I most wanted simply because of the cash back and I have dedicated almost 100 % of my spend to it since opening the account. However, this experience is changing my mind about that position. The customer service people claimed that I was warned that I wouldnt receive the sign-up bonus both when I was approved for the card and when I received my welcome package. I am 100 % certain I did not receive the pop-up telling me I wouldnt get the sign-up bonus. I have re-opened my welcome package and do not find anything telling me I wasnt given the sign-up bonus. This created a detrimental reliance in which I dedicated myself to the card and made vacation plans assuming I would have XXXX Hilton points. Surely the past 6 months of card usage have demonstrated to Amex that my Hilton XXXX card is a profitable account for the company. I want this card regardless of the sign-up bonus, but this experience has left a bad taste in my mouth. I have high income ( {$250000.00} ) and spend A LOT on my credit card. For that reason, I requested the following from American Express ( 1 ) Verified documentation that I was advised that I wouldnt receive the sign-up bonus at approval or in the mail. ( 2 ) Either the full sign-up bonus of XXXX Hilton points or some partial bonus.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX, I applied for an AMEX XXXX XXXX credit card in the XXXX XXXX XXXX in XXXX XXXXXXXX XXXX using the terminal in their office direct with American Express. The sales person knew I already had a XXXX XXXX XXXX credit card. The promotion was 0 % interest for 15 months and if you charge {$6000.00} in the first 6 months you get XXXX bonus reward points. Upon approval for the card ( XX/XX/XXXX ), I charged {$15000.00}. I still have not received my bonus rewards to date. I called AMEX several times. I received many different answers. I opened 2 different cases. AMEX is telling me I am not entitled to the bonus rewards because I already have a XXXX XXXX XXXX According to the terms & conditions, which I have attached, if you opened a XXXX XXXX card within the last 24 months, you can not receive the bonus points. I opened my XXXX XXXX card in XX/XX/XXXX. I called the XXXX sales team I purchased with and XXXX corporate. They do not want to get involved. They said it is an AMEX promotion. Needless to say, I am very frustrated with both American Express and XXXX. I am very hopeful the Consumer Federal Protection Bureau can help me resolve this issue. Thank you for your consideration of this matter.
