Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer
Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled
Consumer Complaint: This is ridiculous that i have to open yet another case against American Education Services ( AES ) since they said FFEL loans are not covered by forbearance. I am actively trying to locate others who are experiencing the same issues bc this now seems predatory. Every federal loan program that is eligible for Biden relief is on forbearance except anything from AES. They scheme to find any way to charge and report negative credit info based on reinterpretation of details. They are using the letter against the spirit of the forbearance. I have a whole child to put in college by myself and cant pay my own debt. Yet my other student loan company clearly understands the assignment as they have me on forbearance with the same loan type. This is the 2nd time they have done this and got away with is based off XXXX about the type of FEDERAL loan i have AND using my personal forbearance as opposed to using the federal mandate. They are flagrantly flaunting government defiance by publicly denying adherence. PLEASE for the love of XXXX stop their predatory practices not to mention the {$16000.00} additional fees they have continued to add since interest accrual HAS NEVER STOPPED!

Consumer Complaint: My husband and I have a joint spousal consolidation loan which needs to be separated ( per PL117-200 ). Since the US Dept of Education has not yet implemented this law ( signed on XX/XX/22 ) our student loan lender refused to pause our payments. We are both XXXX and eligible for PSLF, but can not apply for this until our loans are separated. American Education Services ( AES ) acknowledges that we have made well over the required 120 payments. We are unable to pay $ XXXX on student loans that should literally be gone. We are asking for a pause ( like all other direct federal loan borrowers have ) until the US DOE implements the law.

Consumer Complaint: My loan balance is not correct. The current balance shown by Fed Loan is {$340000.00}. I have gone to Fed Loan and they do not have any loan documents to prove my loan balance which keeps accruing interest. I called and they told me to go to my loan servicer XXXX. I proceeded to find out what my true loan balances were by going back to my university, XXXXXXXX XXXX ( currently XXXX XXXXXXXX XXXX ) and was able to obtain a transcript from the registrar showing my financial activity between XXXX when I last attended school. I graduated on XXXX XXXX with my XXXX XXXX. My transcript shows that I had a total of XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX student loans of {$31000.00}. How did we get to {$340000.00}?

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2023, I received a notification from my credit report that my loan balance had increased by {$480.00} with American Education Services ( AES ). I have reached out to them before because these unexpected fees just show up without any reasoning behind it. My payments are automatically withdrawn every month on the due date and hasn't been late in years. I truly believe these loans are set up so that you never truly pay them off. As of today, I have already paid over the amount that was initially borrowed years ago, with half being allocated to interest alone. I believe this is a sophisticated way to create fraud without anyone recognizing it. Any correspondence received is very simple with no true understanding of why my balance keeps increasing.
