Consumer Complaint: Received a call from XXXX ( collection agency ) XXXX XXXX regarding a balance from US Bank from XXXX. He said the bank had an oversight many years ago and failed to contact me. When asked for him to verify my address he had an address from XXXX and said they just had an oversight and did not send out collection activity and now us Bank wants to recoup the money and failure to pay would put me into check system. I am furious because I have a great credit score and very little debt and to be contacted years later without notice is unreal! He said he did understand how odd this is and said to wait for a letter in the mail. I asked " how are you sending a letter when you don't have my address? He said " oh we will just put your info in the data base and find it ''. I said well how come you haven't done that in 16 years? He said " it was an oversight ''. This is ridiculous! I will also be filing a XXXX complaint as well!!! Acct # XXXX XXXX XXXX

Consumer Complaint: I had signed up for the US bank XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX XXXX and when I signed up it clearly said that if I spent {$2000.00} within the first 120 days, I would get {$500.00} cash back as an introductory offer bonus and I spent over {$2000.00} in the first 45-60 days itself and I still haven't received my {$500.00} cash back bonus.

Issue: Problem when making payments
Subissue: Problem during payment process
Consumer Complaint: On my XX/XX/2022 statement, my oldest balance transfer had a balance of {$310.00}. On XX/XX/2022, we made two separate payments from two different bank accounts totaling {$310.00}. This should've paid off the oldest balance transfer ; however, the bank did not apply the payments to the oldest balance transfer. As a result, we incurred {$4.00} in interest plus the balance of that oldest transfer is still {$230.00} ( with a {$300.00} balance subject to interest rate ). During my phone call with supervisor XXXX, she admitted the financial institution does not put our payment to the oldest balance transfer ( or any balance transfers expiring soon ) first. XXXX claims her financial institution has no way to ensure consumer payments are directed to a particular balance transfer. Ultimately, these are questionable business practices and ensure the consumer will get charged with interest and/or late fees. The bank is already making money off of the consumer for the balance transfer, but they want to make paying off the transfer as difficult as possible.

Consumer Complaint: I had a checking account open with US Bank. I came inside for service. I had someone ask me if there was a way that I could help cash a check that was paid to him a concert he had participated in. The check was over XXXX dollars. When I say the amount I didnt believe it. I asked the teller inside if she knew if the check was fraudulent right away because I didnt believe the person who signed the check over to me exactly. At the time she looked at the check and said that she wouldnt know if it was fraud or real for a few days. I was very much on the side of things being fraudulent and I expressed to her that I didnt want to be a part of it if it was fraudulent. I expressed with deep regret that I believed it to be a bad check. She then asked me if I wanted XXXX dollars upfront that day. It was the most exhausting time. I felt obligated for some reason by two parties, and I didnt feel that US BANK cared about my account as a XXXX. I barely had income during that time. Her and I went back and forth about if I should take the XXXX dollars and wait for the check to clear. It was very discouraging. In the end I took the XXXX dollars and walked over to the ATM the US Bank Drive through where the man I knew was parked. I handed him all the money, XXXX dollars. I came back into the same location after a few letters in the mail about my account being closed and negative. I was very upset about the outcome and asked for the manager who was a woman. I was told that there was nothing the bank could do for me that my best option was to pay the negative balance and fee. I asked if we could call the police and the manager replied no the bank can not call the police or do anything for me and she asked me to leave the bank. I also was told that I used the ATM the day of the incident instead of coming inside the bank. That was not true. I left in tears that day.

Issue: Advertising and marketing, including promotional offers
Subissue: Confusing or misleading advertising about the credit card
Consumer Complaint: US Bank sent out a very deceptive promotional credit card offer that on its surface sounds enticing, but which if they had marketed it honestly almost nobody would even consider acting upon. The promotion is clearly worded in bad faith to mislead consumers. On XX/XX/2022 I opened a letter letting me know that I could " Earn up to 20 % more cash back on purchases this spring! '' in large letters for my US Bank CASH+ credit card ( well known as a 5 % cash back card ). Below this was another informational box that also says " For a limited time, earn up to 20 % more cash back on purchases when you use your CASH+ ... '' Below this is a smaller box that mentions " Earn up to 20 % more cash back ( up to {$20.00} ) on purchases after you spend {$2800.00}. * '' with the footnote asterisk. The footnote asterisk explains that what you ACTUALLY get is that after FIRST spending {$2800.00} ( in under 2 months ), spending after that will be awarded a bonus 0.2 % cash back per dollar spent up to {$20.00}. This is completely ridiculous on so many levels. This is a 5 % cash back card in selected categories, and while I understand that the base cash back is technically 1 %, marketing " 20 % more cash back! '' to mean 0.2 % more cash back on a 5 % cash back card is already deceptive. Furthermore, huge letters indicating 20 % more cash back, and tiny letters at the bottom saying " first spend {$2800.00} and then {$500.00} more for your {$20.00} cash back '' is clearly deceptive. And even further, doing that math, {$2800.00} + {$500.00} spent for {$20.00} of bonus cash back is not even close to 20 % more cash back on that whole spending volume, and no combination of spending could achieve the upper bound on the " up to 20 % '' promise. This promotion is clearly offered in bad faith hoping that people who don't bother to read past the huge " Earn up to 20 % more cash back this spring! '' spend large amounts of money on their credit card thinking they're going to get a huge discount on their purchases in the form of cash back, only to discover that if they didn't spend over {$2800.00} in two months they get nothing, and even if they DID, all they can get is a max of {$20.00}. Frankly ridiculous, I've never seen US Bank put out a deceptive promotion like this and I'm frankly appalled at how disingenuous it is.

Consumer Complaint: I was scammed with a lot of money by XXXX XXXX guys. I've already reported everywhere, including XXXX, The fraud department XXXX XXXX, The fraud department of the US embassy in XXXX, and more. Long story short, I reported the fraud to my bank so started investigating, however, only the US bank didn't respond anything although my bank, XXXX, has contacted them several times. After all, XXXX closed the case and advised me to sue the US bank. The lady who is holding my money has an account in the US bank and of course, her account is locked because I reported her. I heard that she is trying to return my money back but she can't do anything with her account now. So, I went to the US bank a few days ago to ask if there is any way to release her account, but the US bank said I should report her to the police for more investigation. I just filed to the Federal Trade Commission fraud department and the website recommended filing to you here if I'm not satisfied with the bank 's service. I will go to the local police station to file her.
