Issue: Managing an account

Subissue: Cashing a check

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX, I had a check ( XXXX XXXX XXXX ) deposit in my account. Truist Bank froze my account and refusing to release my funds after I done proved it was an legal check and IRS verified it as well. Since these allegations my credit score has dropped. I literally let one of the Truist Bankers speak to my landlord, I'm late on all my bills, I'm being harassed by the collectors due to my funds being FROZEN for no reason this is my personal funds being held from me and my family, and may I add my business account is at stake as well...

Issue: Trouble during payment process

Subissue: Paying off the loan

Consumer Complaint: In XX/XX/2023 we requested a payoff quote which was given verbally over the phone and we were told it was good through XX/XX/2023. We were also told we would receive a letter verifying the payoff information. This letter was never received and we mailed a check through our bank bill pay to the mortgage company. The check was processed and never cashed as it turned out that we were not given the correct address for mailing the payoff. We stopped payment on the check and reissued the check and the bank sent it to the correct mailing address. Again, the check wasnt cashed and we had to stop payment on the check. It turns out that the funds had to be issued by certified check or electronically BUT NO ONE during the many phone calls advised XXXX of this. We received an overnight envelope a few days after the payoff amount expired with the first check, instructions for completing the payoff which had to be certified or electronically issued funds. Now we are late with the payoff and our mortgage payment which caused us to have to go to the bank to complete the transaction and pay almost XXXX more due to the incompetent customer service people at Truist Bank. They were the worst mortgage company we have ever dealt with. We would like the original payoff payment honored and the overage of the second payoff refunded. We have paid our mortgage in full.

Issue: Problem when making payments

Subissue:

Consumer Complaint: AutoPay authorization was set-up for a specific amount, and Lightstream withdrew a balloon payment despite not having authorization for that amount. Additionally, their website incorrectly reflected the amount that was going to be withdrawn, resulting in a overdraft fee on my personal checking. I transferred funds to my checking account to cover the payment, however, Lightstream refuses to refund the fee that was incurred due to their broken website and unauthorized payment.

Issue: Fraud or scam

Subissue:

Consumer Complaint: I, XXXX XXXX, a resident of XXXX XXXX, North Carolina, and a XXXX at XXXX XXXX, living with my wife and XXXX baby. I am scammed for {$45000.00} during my house closing process via wire transfer scam. I filed a complaint immediately with XXXX XXXX XXXX [ bank i used to transfer money from ] to put a request to Truist bank [ bank where i sent the money to ] to recover the scammed amount but the Truist bank did not responded with any specific details to XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX and so XXXX XXXXXXXX XXXX closed my case. when i reached the local truist bank branch office and shared the account details they mentioned that the account was flagged as fraud and is under investigation but is not willing to return money even if the case is 90 days old. Below is the full story. We had purchased a new home and were working with a lender for my loan approval. The closing date was scheduled for XX/XX/XXXX, and the loan was expected to be disbursed on that day. On the morning of XX/XX/XXXX, I had signed a bunch of documents on the " XXXX XXXX XXXX '' website as part of the loan approval process. On XX/XX/2023, I completed signing all the documents around XXXX XXXX The title attorney informed me that I should expect an email from the title attorney with details of the wire transfer regarding the closing costs. At XXXXXXXX XXXX EST on XX/XX/XXXX, I received an email from " XXXX XXXX XXXX '' with the following message : Hello XXXX, Congratulations on the final steps of your purchase of XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, NC Your closing has been scheduled and will be coordinated XX/XX/2023. You need to have Cash to close funds wired to our trust account today to avoid closing delay. I will send the wire instructions once you have acknowledged the receipt of this email. I will be busy with limited access to my phone. You can send me an email if you need anything else. Please note : You will need a valid photo ID or any form of ID at closing. After acknowledging the email, they sent a reply with the details of the wire transfer. The email contained the following business account information : " XXXX XXXX, XXXX '', XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX XXXX, VA XXXX and the Bank account number is # XXXX. I was asked to send a similar amount of money mentioned in my closing documents which i did. I began to suspect that someone from the lender, the business that approved the loan for my house, had been tracking me and sent the email exactly when I was expecting it ( XXXX minutes after I signed all closing documents ). As I was multitasking with office work, I did not pay attention to the origination of the email. They had also CCed my real estate agent 's modified ID ( email ID very close to his original email but with a few characters changed ). After an hour of the transfer, I received an email from the correct attorney asking for the money. It was at this point that I realized I had been scammed.

Issue: Managing an account

Subissue: Deposits and withdrawals

Consumer Complaint: I opened a Truist account about XXXX months ago after receiving promotional material about a {$400.00} bonus for opening a new checking account. I created the account online and somehow their system created XXXX accounts. They locked me out of the account and said it was because my identity couldn't be verified, but they had no problem verifying my linked XXXX checking account and taking my initial {$100.00} deposit. I could not access the account online. I tried multiple times to resolve it over the phone and was unable to. I had to visit the local branch and speak with the XXXX. They told me I had to come back the next day because there were invalid maintenance fees applied to the account so they needed to clear before I could close the account. I went back the next week and closed the account. I have since received multiple calls everyday saying that my account is overdrawn {$27.00} for maintenance fees. Apparently they never closed the duplicate account that was created when I first registered. I called Truist again yesterday and was told I needed to wait another XXXX hours minimum to close the account because they had to clear the invalid maintenance fees. I am now going to have to waste my time going back to the local branch yet again. This is absolutely unacceptable, especially the fact that my money was inaccessible for nearly XXXX months until this was resolved, and I was ineligible for the {$400.00} bonus since my account was locked and I could not setup the required direct deposit for my paycheck. This seems like false advertising or just really sneaky behavior to me and it is not the way a financial institution should be treating people or their money.

Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed

Subissue: Debt is not yours

Consumer Complaint: Originally I was a Suntrust customer. I continued to utilize my cards. One personal credit card the other business. Truist became the new bank which held now held my accounts. When I went on line to pay my personal card I realize that my Business card was not coming showing. Contacting them, they could not find my information. My business card had XXXX bal. and would not expire until XX/XX/XXXX. I assumed they closed my account. Nothing in writing from them. So I never used the card again, The only card I continue to use was my personal credit card... In the month of XX/XX/XXXX I realized another account was showing with a different number with an outstanding balance of {$190.00}. I contacted them immediately. They claimed it was related to my business card and that amount reflected interest charges from an outstanding balance. When I ask them what purchased was made, they could not retrieve the information. Let me just say my last purchase on that card before it disappeared was for approx. {$14.00} XXXX of XXXX. Secondly the address attached to that outstanding bill was my old address that I had not lived at since XXXX of XXXX. All my statements had been sent to my new address when I made the move when it was still Suntrust. I have been battling this since XX/XX/XXXX. I closed my personal account because of my lack of confidence in this institution. Recently I had a collection agency contact me associated with that account. She said she would provide the information associated with that outstanding debt and mail it to me. In the meantime I get a email from Truist with an on line statement. Logging in I see that not only is that outstanding balance still on there but now it had increased to {$2100.00}. How is that possible? After filing this with their Fraud department, they came back with no resolve. Where is my business credit card and information Truist? It is impossible to reach anyone there. I would like this cleared up and this resolved. Something went awry with the change of hands.
