Issue: Problem with a lender or other company charging your account

Subissue: Transaction was not authorized

Consumer Complaint: I had a bank account at Suntrust for many years without any monthly maintenance fees. A couple of years ago, this bank was bought by Truist Bank. Starting last fall, they started charging me a monthly maintenance charge of {$25.00} without notifying me. I found out after they charged me for 7 months - for a total of {$170.00}! They did not notify me about these charges. They only offered me to refund {$75.00}, which is still not fair. They should not have made the unauthorized charges. They should have notified me about these pending charges and offered me an alternative type of account that has no maintenance fees- like I had at Suntrust for many years. If they refund me {$75.00}, they still owe me {$100.00}.

Issue: Getting a line of credit

Subissue:

Consumer Complaint: I am trying to access a portion of my unlimited credit and Truist will not let me do so in any form. I applied for a personal loan on XX/XX/XXXX and was denied as well as I have been denied for every credit card I have applied for with Truist. They also closed my personal checking account and business account for being in the negative, due to fraud, and identity theft. They didn't even care to take the police report about my stolen identity or my side of the story until I reported them. I am recently finding out all of their denials and account closings are illegal. Not being able to access credit has cost me dearly. I need to know all the factors underwriting used to deny my consumer applications based on the law, and what laws did they use to close my accounts? I also, need to remind them that their policies are not in alignment with the law according to 15 U.S. Code Subsection 1611 for willful and knowing you are in violation as well as the securities and exchange act of 1934, and CFR 321, 328.6 and adverse action.

Issue: Trouble during payment process

Subissue:

Consumer Complaint: Lost job due to Covid and was told that would work with me on making payments. Made payments via phone monthly but was reported that I was not making monthly payments during this time and negatively impacted credit report and score. Payments would not process on time incurring numerous late fees and other charges. Incorrectly applied payments towards principle instead of interest payments causing more fees to accrue. Would make payments arrangements and the payments would never process causing more fees and negatively impacting credit report. Also after providing prof of insurance on property added insurance and charged me for insurance duplicately. Thus incurring more charges and fees that caused to fall further behind. All this also caused account credit line to be temporarily suspended. Finally caught up by going into branch and talking with a representative. However credit report and score have been damaged tremendously.

Issue: Managing an account

Subissue: Fee problem

Consumer Complaint: I am writing to inform you all I am filing a complaint against Truist Banks cash reserve, a line of credit of up to {$750.00} offered based on qualifying direct deposits in checking and/or saving accounts. After my call on XXXX XXXX of XXXX, I was unable to resolve bringing my first monthly payment down to the {$190.00} from {$330.00} after explaining that a previous supervisor, who I spoke with on XXXX XXXX of XXXX, and the terms and conditions failed to properly inform me that if I took a cash advance in the midst of an active advance, charges would be applied on the dude date from both advances. I reached out right after I took the advance ( XX/XX/XXXX ) and after the statement posted ( XX/XX/XXXX ) with no clear resolution. The terms and conditions also state that I can write a letter to Truist if I believe my statement balance is wrong and I will be sending a letter by XXXX XXXX which is five days before my payment is due & when a letter must be received for automatic payments to stop. I also, according to the terms and conditions, must report this error no later than sixty days after the error appeared and writing a letter by this date falls in that timeframe.

Issue: Managing an account

Subissue: Problem using a debit or ATM card

Consumer Complaint: On XXXX I discovered rampant multiple fraudulent transactions performed on my Truist Bank checking account. I called the bank to report this and file a fraud claim dispute. I was told an investigation would be performed on the fraud claim. Two days later I call follow up to find out the claim was denied because the bank said I authorized the transactions. I vehemently deny the fraud charges were completed in a Georgia when I live in Nevada. I started with Suntrust Bank over 10 years ago when the bank was merged into the newly formed Truist Bank. I explained I never used my card in Georgia, I didnt give any unauthorized information to anyone to access my card, and I misplaced my card. The bank says someone used an XXXX to access my account in Georgia and therefore so they are denying my claim. The fraud claim includes thousands of dollars in fictional fraudulent checks into a Truist Bank Atm machine, debit card purchases all in Georgia while I was in Nevada the entire time. I am requesting the Bank do a proper investigation perhaps look at camera footage at atm machines where fake checks were deposited, talk to merchants where the card was used to see who is performing fraud on my account. I will not accept the bank not performing a thorough and proper investigation. The bank refuses to send me copies of the fictional checks that were deposited, they say I have to go to a local branch even though the closest branch is over 1,000 miles away from me. Ive had multiple phone conversations with three representatives from fraud management and fraud communications with no resolution to my fraud claim. I spoke with XXXX today, I was told I would be contacted my fraud analyst XXXX who has not contacted me, and nobody will assist me. I reported multiple times that my card was lost or stolen, and I do not know who is using my card information and the bank continues to tell me that I authorized the charges. I am Requesting the CFPB to assist me in getting Truist Bank to perform a fraud investigation completed, to dispute the fraudulent charges, and not hold me liable for fraudulent activity on my debit card and checking account for charges I DID NOT authorize. I have never been to the State of Georgia, never used my card in Georgia, and I did not authorize anyone access to my account or card information. Consumer Complaint: I had {$7300.00} in my Truist savings account as of XX/XX/. I went in to a local branch to open a joint checking account and I was told by the banker that I had no money in my savings account and that it was closed. Issue: Opening an account

Subissue: Didn't receive terms that were advertised

Consumer Complaint: I opened an account with Truist bank XX/XX/XXXX after they offered a {$400.00} bonus to open the account. I made 2 requested direct deposits of {$500.00} each to meet the eligibility. I verified that I had met the terms with Truist customer service when I opened the account and made the deposits. After 30 days I was supposed to have received the {$400.00} bonus, however it wasnt received. I again called customer service on XXXX and was assured I had met eligibility and that I would receive the funds in a week or two. I visited my local Truist branch on XX/XX/XXXX. They took my information but never followed up. I still have not received my {$400.00} bonus. Truist misled me into opening an account with the promise of a bonus and now refuse to pay. hours of my time wasted on hold and waiting at the local branch with several false promises of paying me the {$400.00} bonus.
