Issue: Closing an account

Subissue: Can't close your account

Consumer Complaint: I have a TD Bank business account which I opened when I lived in XXXX. I recently moved to XXXX with the intention of keeping my business and my business account open but since then, circumstances have changed and I have been forced to close my business and therefore no longer require the account. I have asked TD how I can close my account even though I live outside of their service area and their only response has been to go to a local branch. I find this to be an untenable solution when personal account holders have the option of sending a notarized letter or requesting the account closure through their secure messaging system. At this point, in order to avoid paying the monthly maintenance fee, I will be forced to maintain a minimum of {$1500.00} in the account. This will go on until I am able to XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX to make an unnecessary trip to XXXX and close the account in person.

Subissue: Can't close your account

Consumer Complaint: The target red card is one of the worst cards I ever had. They never gave the promotion of {$40.00} when opening up an account. Their store credit card half of the time doesnt work when purchasing in store. their APR was a lie. Everything about this card is terrible. as I requested so many times for them to send me paper bills they never do. They never send me their agreement policy of the APR rates. I will never open card with target again. When account was opened didnt either check state ID. had to report my card l stolen a couple of times. I called customer service to close my account and they are refusing to close my account as a customer. I have a right to ask for my account to be closed. I do not want to do business with them ever again. Once my balance is paid off the remaining, I am going to ask the credit bureaus to delete Target from my credit report. For advertising promotions that dont even exist.

Consumer Complaint: There was a double payment made to my target card. Target claim I made a phone payment that I did not make that caused a bunch of confusion. Issue: Fees or interest

Subissue: Charged too much interest

Consumer Complaint: Dear TD Bank Management, I am writing to dispute the interest charge on my credit card account due to financial hardship. I have been facing financial difficulties due to unemployment and unexpected bills such as medical bills for the kids and the newborn. My husband was away from home for his study and he to pay for housing, foods, etc. I honestly was not aware I was charging interests on my account until I recently checked and reviewing my account. I did not receive a notice that my account has been accruing interest. I thought the account has been paid off. I recently paid off the account because I dont want another accruing interest for the month of XXXX. The accruing interests are outrageously high. I believe it is unfair and has been a distress for me see my balance accruing interests. I have five very young kids to take care of and this is a difficult situation along with the rising costs of inflation. Please understand my hardships and I believe that the interest charges on my account since XX/XX/2022 would be waived during the financial hardships. I know that I can talk to a representative, but they may not be able to help me because they do not have authority to waive the interests as requested. And if I sent a letter, it would probably get ignored.

Issue: Took or threatened to take negative or legal action

Subissue: Threatened to sue you for very old debt

Consumer Complaint: I was recently contacted by a number from XXXX, Virginia ( XXXX ( XXXX ) XXXX ) Who claim to say that I owed a debt of just shy of {$1000.00} for an account that I had apparently 15 years ago when I was 17 years of age and was closed last Thursday they proceeded to contact me and explain to me if I would like to resolve the debt or go to court over said that which I informed them that I dont remember that account which day then proceeded to explain that if I would like they would take legal action. Now with me understanding that this debt could possibly if at all exist be over 15 years ago obviously I informed them to take legal action if that is what they felt necessary to do. Which then a Processor proceeded to call my family member and leave him voicemails regarding case details and order numbers etc. which was then forwarded to me I have not personally had direct contact with said person. They left in the voicemail a phone number to a person or business in the XXXX XXXX California area ( XXXX ). Which I then called and explain to them that its been 15 years if that even existed and you cant proceed legal action which I was then hung up on so I called back to try to verify they were even carrying the correct information to ensure that I was delivered my legal papers properly which to no avail was continued to be hung up on. Now I am in concern they will actually follow through with legal course of action without actually delivering papers to me in order to get a judgment in my absence and claim that the paperwork has actually been delivered.

Issue: Incorrect information on your report

Subissue: Account information incorrect

Consumer Complaint: Dear CFPB or TO Whim it May Concern : Although TD Bank USA/Target Credit responded XXXX they have CIRCUMVENTED some very important facts. 1 ) TD Bank USA/Target Credit did NOT at all acknowledge or address the FACT I actually paid two months in advance. Technically I was never-ever late 30 days, because I paid in advance twice. ( see box showing payments ) 2 ) How TD Bank USA/Target Credit statements show payments and refunds DO NOT correctly match up when the financial transactions took place. This throws off proper reporting of what is due for each month. Please note that my first payment due for XX/XX/2022 was {$29.00}. I had already pre-paid that bill due with a {$30.00} payment I made on XX/XX/2022. There was no statement, nor any payment due in XX/XX/2022. When the statement came out in XXXX, the amount due of {$29.00} had already been pre-paid on XX/XX/2022. TD Bank USA/Target Credit XXXX NOT correct nor reflect this in their statements to show that the XXXX payment had already been met. Instead, it shows {$29.00} still due. This is a TD Bank USA/Target Credit error! Likewise, on XX/XX/2022, I paid {$50.00} to cover XXXX payment due, which is more than the minimum payment due of {$31.00} for XXXX. TD Bank USA/Target Credit did NOT correct nor reflect this once again in their statement to show that the XXXX payment had already been met. This is another TD Bank USA/Target Credit error! They should have reflected and applied my {$50.00} payment already made after the last months payment due had already been met. Instead, they charged me a later fee of {$29.00}. This is not right! Their statement, page 3, indicates you can prepay without being charged. I paid in advance {$50.00} to cover the XXXX payment due, which would have resulted in a balance of XXXX in XXXX. On XX/XX/2022, I paid off the remaining balance of XXXX ( XXXX + XXXX min. cc fee ) TD Bank USA/Target Credit XXXX NOT even address the FACT that I already made payments for XXXX and XXXX. They CIRCUMVENTED reflecting these very facts to show the offset of what already had been paid and how those payments would actually supersede/meet more than the minimum payments due for those XXXX months. On XX/XX/2022, I made a purchase of {$120.00}, which I paid off in XXXX months! On XX/XX/2022, I paid {$30.00} for upcoming XXXX statement. The minimum payment due for the XX/XX/2022 bill was {$29.00}. XXXX days later, XX/XX/2022, I made another payment of {$50.00} for bill due in XX/XX/2022. On XX/XX/2022, I learned, only by coincidence, that TD Bank USA/Target Credit had charged me a late fee, of which was to be reversed upon receipt of remaining balance of XXXX. On XX/XX/2022, I paid off the remaining balance of XXXX. XXXX paid off in XXXX months! CORRECTIVE ACTIONS TARGET NEEDS TO TAKE : XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX to remove the XXXX late notice from my account. *Restore my credit limit to previous credit limits ( XXXX XXXX years ago, TD Bank USA/Target Credit lowered my limit due to my non-use of their product, and TD Bank USA/Target Credit using outdated , antiquated data older than 10 years ). I maintain a very low credit utilization rate ( XXXX % ). DO NOT have too many credit inquiries and no late payments, as they tried to claim. ) **something is not right about the TD Banks algorithms and computer-generated decisions, because another TD Bank vendor did exactly the same thing that TD Bank USA/Target Credit did by auto lowering my credit for non-use. However, when I wrote them the other TD Bank vendor, they actually looked at the situation, apologized and restored my credit limit, which is much higher than the TD Bank USA/Target Credit fiasco . Initially, that TD Bank Vendor played that same disappointing and wrong game by claiming false information of me having too many credit inquiries, not paying on time. NOT TRUE. The FACT was just the opposite. I had a excellent credit history record for the past XXXX XXXX. ) TD Bank USA/Target Credit needs to be held accountable. It concerns me and should concern your institution as well. There has been a ton of misunderstanding and poor communication with the TD Bank USA/Target Credit employees . in trying to clear up this matter. Many of them have placated and patronized me versus looking at what actually happened. They cant even answer why the statements showed money being owed, what's accurately due, when the payments had already been made and paid twice in advance. Did you notice in their response, there is no mention of these FACTS. On XX/XX/2022, I made a purchase of {$120.00}, which I paid off in XXXX months! On XX/XX/2022, I made a payment of {$30.00} for payment to be due in XX/XX/2022 bill. 20 days later, XX/XX/2022, I made a payment of {$50.00} for payment for the XX/XX/2022 bill. Once again, according to the FCRA, consumer reporting agencies must correct or delete inaccurate, incomplete, or unverifiable information. Inaccurate, incomplete, or unverifiable information must be removed or corrected, usually within 30 days. Thank you for your prompt corrective attention to this matter. Sincerely, XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX.

Issue: Problem with the payoff process at the end of the loan

Subissue:

Consumer Complaint: I signed up for XXXX XXXX through TD Bank for a line of credit for a cellphone and an additional {$11.00} a month for a phone protection plan. I had set up autopay directly from my bank account. The phone loan was paid off in full in XX/XX/2022. The {$11.00} protection plan continued to be charged to the line of credit after the phone was paid off, however, TD stopped accepting my autopay and a balance started accruing in XXXX. In addition to the XXXX a month, TD Bank also added a {$40.00} late charge every month since XXXX. They did not contact me nor notify me to update my autopay, nor did they notify me that they are not accepting my autopay. The first notification I got from them was a bill for over {$100.00}. This is an unfair and deceptive tactic, to allow companies to add on excessive fees without proper notification. They should have notified me immediately about any late payments so I could have avoided their ridiculous late charges. There was no prior message or notification that my autopay would stop working. In fact, autopay is still configured on my account but it is not going through.
