Issue: Closing an account
Subissue: Fees charged for closing account
Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2021 I closed my checking and savings accounts with PNC Bank. I authorized a check in the amount of my full remaining balance to be mailed to my home, as well as all sufficient paperwork that explicity states that the accounts are closed. I received all of that, the check was in the correct amount, and I also received a final statement that shows a balance of {$0.00}. On XX/XX/2021, I received an email from PNC Bank with a warning my checking account was overdrawn. I was able to log in to my online banking XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. I saw that PNC had charged me a month service fee of {$13.00}, which is issued for not having the minimum balance in the checking account ( {$500.00} ). Of course I wouldn't have a minimum balance because the account was closed on XX/XX/2021. However, the online statement showed a balance of {$0.00} on XX/XX/2021 -- XXXX days after my account was closed, with the memo " Interest payment ''. I called a local PNC branch and the banker could not provide an explanation as to why there was XXXX XXXX put into my account, and why it was still opened. He issued me a check for the XXXX and ensured that the account was now closed. I asked for him to send a paper document to my home that would confirm the new closure of my account, but he said that they don't have anything. I think it needs to be investigated as to why my account was reopened with XXXX XXXX in order for PNC to charge fees. There should have not been an interest payment because the account was closed and there was no money in it for them to even issue interest in the first place.

Consumer Complaint: I had a credit of $ XXXX deposited into my PNC checking account showing Covid credit as the category. When I contacted my bank as to what it was, I was informed it was a credit like citizens had received before during the last year for pandemic. I never requested this money I never signed anything, etc. Amazing, so I thought. My direct deposit paycheck hit my account at midnight today and PNC took it saying my account was now overdrawn and used it to repay what is now showing as a $ XXXX temporary credit. I am a XXXX mom and this took my rent and groceries for the next XXXX weeks. My next paycheck will also be taken for the outstanding difference. I contacted PNC who now denies any of this and states if was financial assistance, which again I never requested. They would not even assist with a payback plan or anything. This is absolutely unethical banking practices and theft on their part.

Consumer Complaint: During the pandemic our financial situation greatly changed. I contacted PNC Bank on XX/XX/2021 through their messenger function. When the XXXX payment hit our account for the child tax credit the XXXX added funds to allow it to credit the entire amount, and then there was a ton of confusion that caused unnecessary overdraft fees. They would only reimburse partial of the overdraft fees. They have continued to charge over draft fees during the pandemic practically stealing our money. They told us that they would not refund any future issues. Taking from someone who is already negative just because of how a check hits ( dates via mail ) is absolutely unfair.

Issue: Struggling to pay mortgage
Subissue:
Consumer Complaint: My wife lost her job of 18 years in XXXX of XXXX due to the Covid Pandemic. In XXXX of XXXX we entered the Cares Act Forbearance Plan with our VA home loan. We have since exited the Forbearance Plan and have made our XXXX & XXXX of XXXX mortgage payments. In discussions with our Mortgage Servicer ( XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX ) about repayment of our missed loan payments while in forbearance, we had made an agreement on XX/XX/XXXX that we would use the VAPCP Program ( VA Partial Claim Payment Program ). Wherein the VA purchases the forbearance period missed payments and places them in a second lien on the home, which is interest free and payable when the property is sold. On XX/XX/XXXX the servicing of our loan, not the loan itself, was transferred to PNC Bank. We have come to find out they will not honor the agreement made with our previous servicer nor will they consider the VA Program as an option. ( verified in recorded phone conversations ). They are attempting, with the threat of foreclosure, to force us into filing a Hardship Assistance Application. This in itself would be fraudulent because we are not in a financial hardship situation. This Hardship Assistance Application is 16 pages long and is very similar to a new loan application. If we comply, it will give PNC Bank the right to dictate the manner in which the missed payments are paid back. This is entrapment. Through XXXX telephone conversations ( most recorded ) we have determined that their end game is to do what they call a " XXXX XXXX ''. In reality, it will be a new loan because it will have a new total, a new interest rate, a new term length, and of course new fees. First, this enables them to add the missed payments into the entire length of the mortgage which will greatly increase the loan. As an example of which, early on, our former servicer attempted the same thing. They upped the interest rate and added XXXX years to our loan, which equalled approximately {$110000.00}, to repay the missed payments which were {$32000.00}, an {$87000.00} fee to borrow {$32000.00}! Secondarily, they will now be able to sell the new larger loan and get a big payday because our home has doubled in value, making the loan more lucrative to an investor. In summary, If PNC Bank wanted to be simply paid back, they could use the VA XXXX XXXX XXXX, which we chose, and have their money overnight. It is outrageous that a XXXX XXXX Bank, bailed out in XXXX to the tune of XXXX XXXX taxpayer dollars, is using this XXXX economic tragedy to rip off the " little people '' that, back then, saved them.

Consumer Complaint: I opened the PNC checking account by clicking on the application link for Virtual Wallet Performance Select with {$400.00} welcome bonus. However, something messed up in PNC backend system that I ended up opening another type of checking account as Virtual Wallet with only {$100.00} welcome bonus. After I met all the requirements for the promotion but suddenly found that PNC gave me a different checking account from what I applied for, so I called customer service to change my account to Virtual Wallet Performance Select which is what I applied for. The banker on the call told me that my account has already been updated and the welcome bonus would be issued based on the updated checking account. However, I ended up receiving the bonus of {$100.00} which is still for the wrong checking account PNC issued at the beginning. I called PNC banker again but they was not able to do anything. They just gave excuses that the final bonus is based on the original wrong checking account PNC issued, instead of the corrected checking account type I changed later. This is such a cheating behavior because it was PNC who messed up the application, issued the wrong checking account type, or messed up in recognizing the application link and resource. My PNC Account Number : XXXX ( Virtual Wallet Performance Select ) Please review my welcome bonus requirements for the corrected checking account type ( Virtual Wallet Performance Select ). And issue me the correct welcome bonus amount of {$400.00}.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2021 I transferred a balance from BBVA/PNC credit card to my XXXX XXXX credit card for a better APR. I called XXXX XXXX and they confirmed the balance was transferred XXXX XXXX. BBVA/PNC continued to show the balance as over {$6000.00}. I called and spoke to several different representatives and they said no balance transfer had occurred and that I should make the payment, I did not. Both credit cards showed this balance and due to the fact that BBVA was transitioning over to PNC Bank I waited for them to update the information. I began receiving bill collection calls but BBVA/PNC had already told me that during this transition there would be no hit to my credit score. I finally spoke to an escalation representative for PNC on XXXX XXXX who told me I needed to prove this balance transfer with the canceled check from XXXX XXXX, this was the first time a rep requested this. I checked with XXXX XXXX and BBVA/PNC Bank had only just returned the check on XXXX XXXX, they held onto it for XXXX months. Now my credit score has gone crazy it had dropped XXXX points but now it looks like its dropped well over XXXX!
