Issue: Dealing with my lender or servicer

Subissue: Having problems with customer service

Consumer Complaint: Hello, Im writing to express the difficult transition in the transfer of my private student loan from XXXX to FirstMark Services. I have been paying this account since XX/XX/XXXX, without falling behind on my payments. I had been using an online account to make these payments. As of XX/XX/XXXX my loan was no longer being serviced by XXXX, which I just found out XX/XX/XXXX and immediately paid the entire amount past due. During this transition I never spoke with either party that this was happening. Never receiving anything in the mail or by phone. I did search and find several emails from FirstMark services in my junk folder after I had discovered there was a transfer. The website I had been using to make payments ( XXXX ) has/had no messages informing me of this transition. I discovered what had transpired by contacting XXXX on the phone because I have been unable to make payments via website or automated phone system. When trying to make payments on the account it displayed there is no minimum payments due. I should have called sooner to investigate the disapearance of my loan, and for a few months I just assumed that I was ahead of my payment schedule which is why there was no minimum due. After calling around finding the new location of my loan I was informed that I was only days away from defaulting on a $ XXXX/month loan that I 've never missed payment on prior to this transition. I hope there is someway to fight the late payments filed to creditors since I work very hard to my debts and maintain a healthy credit score. Thank you for your time.

Issue: Dealing with my lender or servicer

Subissue: Don't agree with fees charged

Consumer Complaint: I was shocked when I reviewed my credit report and found several late payments on my student loans with the dates below : Account Number : XXXX 180 days past due as of XX/XX/XXXX to XX/XX/XXXX 150 days past due as of XX/XX/XXXX 120 days past due as of XX/XX/XXXX 90 days past due as of XX/XX/XXXX Account Number : XXXX 180 days past due as of XX/XX/XXXX to XX/XX/XXXX 150 days past due as of XX/XX/XXXX 120 days past due as of XX/XX/XXXX 90 days past due as of XX/XX/XXXX Account Number : XXXX 180 days past due as of XX/XX/XXXX to XX/XX/XXXX 150 days past due as of XX/XX/XXXX 120 days past due as of XX/XX/XXXX 90 days past due as of XX/XX/XXXX I am not sure how this happened, I believe that I had made my payments to you when I received my statements. My only thought is that this was supposed to be in deferment and it did not get processed correctly or the payments I sent in were not registered.

Issue: Dealing with my lender or servicer

Subissue: Trouble with how payments are handled

Consumer Complaint: The original company that did my two private student loans transferred all of their loans to First Marks Services. Since the transfer has happened my loans were put under the wrong status, as in one of loans said I was in repayment while the other said I am still in school. I am still in school. It took four phone calls and over a month for them to fix this issue. This month I paid the amount that my bill said was due XXXX. My payments are due every XX/XX/XXXX of every month. This month was no different, the website I make payments on told me my amount due was XXXX due by XX/XX/2017. I paid that exact amount several days early on XX/XX/2017 and I look at the website again today on XX/XX/2017 and they have added more money XXXX that they said is due this month by XX/XX/2017. The customer service is of no help and they have yelled at me and hung up on me. I have called 3 times in the past hour and have been hung up on 3 times. They only called back once. The only thing they say is that I should not have made a payment.

Issue: Dealing with my lender or servicer

Subissue: Need information about my balance/terms

Consumer Complaint: Began XXXX in XXXX. Approved for a Parent Loan Waiver in XXXX. While submitting documents to prove my XXXX, all payments were not needed. XXXX years qualified me for the waiver. However, I have told Dept. of Ed and then Edfinancial of my financial hardship through the many forebearances being granted. My limits on income were governed by XXXX rules ; hence the two aforementioned depts. knew of my XXXX status. Nelnet ( another servicer ) told me I would be reimbursed payments made when I was XXXX as I can prove long term XXXX. I fully expected a decent reimbursement that is supposed to arrive in 45-60 days after XX/XX/XXXX ( my approval start date ). Suddenly, Nelnet says I will not receive any reimbursement when I called for a status update. Earlier on same day ( XX/XX/XXXX ) a Nelnet rep said I would get a reimbursement of over {$2000.00} ( I ordered payment history of my loan that began in XXXX. ) Please help, what is going on.???

Issue: Cont'd attempts collect debt not owed

Subissue: Debt was paid

Consumer Complaint: I received a letter saying I owe a student loan and must send the amount to them. The letter used the US Dept of Educ. but did not indicate who is the servicer who gave them the authority to collect for them. I called the number of the collection agency and the person on the phone said it was a student loan for my daughter 10 yrs ago in my former married name, ( I 've been divorced since and use my maiden name now ) and its defaulted loan. The person on the phone said that I can make payment arrangement based from my income and budget, as low as 5 dollars a mo. in order for the debt to be out of defaulted status. I was skeptical, but I answered all personal questions including where I worked, how much I make, even my budget etc ... since I barely have money left for food expenses, he said I qualify for 5 dollars a month. I thanked the person and I said give me the website where I can pay online. He said that their program is only for automatic payment and I need to give my bank acct or debit card to pay the 5 $ monthly payment. I got nervous and I told him that I will call him back in the morning and I got his name and ext number. The following day I researched and make calls and with the help of the account number on the letter the collection agency sent me, I found out that this so called defaulted loan, has zero balance. That 's why it was not even in my credit report, and I do check my credit score every month, and my credit report at least every 6 mos. So I blocked the collection agency 's phone number to stop them from calling me. They have been calling me and leaving messages, even using local phone number to trick me to answer their call. After 15 days of the original debt collection letter, I received again 2 letters back to back in 2 days, same exact letter, but the balance owed is more but with same loan account number. So I decided to report them.

Issue: Dealing with my lender or servicer

Subissue: Trouble with how payments are handled

Consumer Complaint: I currently have all my student loans through Nelnet. They acquired them 5-6 years ago. When they initially acquired them from my previous loan holder they changed my repayment terms for my loans to 25 years with out my consent. I called them as soon as I noticed and told them I did n't authorize them to change in repayment term. They ended up setting up the loans as one set up a 10 year repayment and another set up as 15 year repayment. My payment was around XXXX a month. I have been repaying these loans for the 5 years. I have had to times when I went on 3 months of XXXX that I put the loans on forbearance for 3 months. Through this 5 year times they have tried to reset my loan repayment term to 25 years without my consent. I only notice when I call and ask what my repayment term is. Every time they supposedly tell me they put it back to the original repayment term. This just happened again and now I am being told that they can not put it back to original repayment term without my payment going up. Please help. I feel like I am being taken advantage by them and I am not sure what to do.

Consumer Complaint: I enrolled into XXXX in XX/XX/2015. My financial aid advisor never told me about taking out any loans. I 'm on public assistance & I brought in my paperwork to them so they can figure out what would be covered. Now I 'm getting emails from Nelnet saying I owe them {$22000.00} which is impossible because I never took out a student loan.

Issue: Dealing with my lender or servicer

Subissue: Don't agree with fees charged

Consumer Complaint: I did not receive the XXXX-month grace period, after talking with Nelnet, they counted my XXXX-month grace period in chunks during summer semesters that I was n't enrolled. I was under the impression that it was XXXX months after you GRADUATE, not during your summer breaks. I took classes during XXXX summer semesters, but not during every summer. By the time I was notified that my payment was overdue, I had thousands of dollars in interest that had accumulated the entire time I was in school. YEARS of interest while at the same time they were telling me I did n't need to make a payment because I was enrolled in college. It makes no sense. My loans are all broken up with letters of the alphabet, 2 As, 2 Bs, then letters C-G. I 've paid off C, but it cost me {$900.00} for a {$200.00} initial loan. Right now I 'm focusing on the higher interest loans, but after my payments so far, I owe XXXX on my Group D which was for XXXX. Ridiculous. I was getting a mortgage when I found out that my XXXX month grace period was over years ago, I called Nelnet, they had me mixed up with a different person. So they sent me an entire loan information package, all in XXXX, with student loans belonging to someone else. I called back, and they could n't tell me how much I owe, or how long the payments would go on for. Right now I 'm trying to pay them off as fast as I can, and I send extra every month. XXXX of my loan groups I do n't technically owe a payment on until XXXX of 2018. I pay every group. And then pay extra on certain accounts, and now I 'm sitting with an email from them saying I 'm {$5.00} short, and that {$5.00} payment is overdue. HOW? I do n't see it anywhere. I never pay less. It makes no sense. But it feels like they are just milking me for every dollar they can get. It 's ridiculous. I have a XXXX kids with a XXXX on the way, I was working while in school, the last thing on my mind was babysitting Nelnet when they made the terms of the loan very simple with the grace period and repayment arrangement. They are taking advantage of students, and I do n't think it 's right, fair, legal or just. I attended XXXX, as well as XXXX. Thanks-
