Issue: Problem with a purchase shown on your statement
Subissue: Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement
Consumer Complaint: On Wednesday XX/XX/XXXX I made a purchase over the telephone with a XXXX representative using my Discover credit card. My sister also used her XXXX XXXX credit card to make a purchase in which they denied saying the company called XXXX was fraud, so they rejected her payment. I immediately called Discover to have them not authorize the transaction. They told me that they had already approved the transaction. They asked me to call back in a few days once the payment showed posted. I called Discover back on XX/XX/XXXX to advise them that the charge would need to be disputed. They asked me to call them back after my trip to XXXX to show that the services were not rendered. I called Discover once again on XX/XX/XXXX, They advised me that I would need to open a case with them to have this disputed. I also called the company that is fraudulent, XXXX to tell them that they need to give me my money back because no services were rendered. They argued with me for about 20 minutes saying they were going to send me my flight tickets through email however I never received them. What I did receive was a made up itinerary which consisted of leaving from XXXX XXXX, arriving in XXXX XXXX and on the way back showed flying into XXXX to XXXX XXXX. My trip was from Washington DC to XXXX. On XX/XX/XXXX I got a letter from Discover saying they did there investigation and found the charge to be valid. On XX/XX/XXXX I submitted more documentation to open the case back up for further review to show supported documentation that this company needs to be shut down, blocked from there system, and my charge back is valid. On XX/XX/XXXX, I got a letter from Discover again saying the disputed transaction was not in my favor and that I am responsible for a {$1100.00} transaction that I never got services for. I called Discover on XX/XX/XXXX and asked for a Manager to contact me about this. On Friday, XX/XX/XXXX XXXX ( a supervisor at Discover ) Called me to tell me that I would need to take additional steps outside of Discover to resolve this. Here I am now filing a complaint with CFPB, I have contacted the Federal Trade Commission and my States Attny generals office.

Consumer Complaint: Every year I pay an additional amount on my two student loans to Discover Student Loans and every time they mishandle it and I have to resolve the problem myself each time. Most recently I attempted to pay off my loan on XX/XX/XXXX and payment was posted and processed and the over {$8000.00} payment I posted and recieved confirmation was then changed to the minimum charge which was just over {$100.00}. They now are attempting to continue to charge interest on the full amount.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2019, I checked into the XXXX XXXX in XXXX XXXX, AL. I had 2 rooms reserved for our stay. The first room, # 300, for two nights in the amount of {$490.00} was charged to my Discover card. There was a {$240.00} pre-authorization fee charged to my credit card, this charge was reversed or rolled off my Discover card. My second room, # 104, in the amount of a {$430.00} was charged to my card. There was a {$240.00} pre-authorization fee charged to my card that did not roll off or reverse. This charge, {$240.00} was placed on my card XX/XX/2019 ( see attached billing statement ). The letter from the merchant dated XX/XX/2019 states that the pre-authorization charge was placed on card and reversed on XX/XX/2019, perhaps that charge was reversed, but as you see the additional {$240.00} was placed on my card XX/XX/2019 and not reversed. I have contacted the merchant by phone and Discover by phone and mail. Discover considers dispute valid and no further investigation warranted. I am not sure how Discover arrived at their conclusion ; however, the charged is definitely invalid. I am not disputing the bill for the two rooms, but the reserve hold charge of {$240.00}. Please assist me in getting this matter resolved.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2019 I paid for a service that I never received. It was for an event, and two separate charges were made. {$4900.00} and {$9900.00}. The seller reached out to me and told me they were unable to provide the service and will refund me. When that did not happen, I disputed the charge through my Discover credit card. During their investigation, they reached out to XXXX, who was the merchant account for the seller, and requested information. XXXX send them a receipt that verified the charge was authorized. As I explained to Discover that I have never denied the charge was authorised, my complaint was that I never received the service I paid for. They requested additional information from me, but I could not reach the seller. I explained everything over the phone and they continued the investigation. Based only on the receipt they received from XXXX, they closed the case against me, in favor of the seller. I contacted them right away, within one or two days and asked them, what kind of documents do they need to reopen the dispute. I was told, they needed a written confirmation from the seller, that they have not been able to provide the service and that they have the intention to refund my Discover account. After I provided exactly what they asked for, I was told the billing department can not issue money, based on an internal review, and the case can not be reopened. My take from this is that, during the initial investigation, they did not do their due diligence and relied only on a receipt which only proves I authorised the charge. Only after the initial dispute with their arbitration was closed, they told me what documents they need from me as a proof and once I gave it to them, They told me there is nothing they could do anyway.

Consumer Complaint: I received a mailed advertisement from Discover about their Discover It card. As I've been looking to replace my current credit card I followed the links and prompts listed in the information to find out what my credit line would look like with that new card. In completing the application I was notified an account was created, which is not what I expected -- I was merely trying to get an estimate of my line of credit. I immediately called the customer service number ( XXXX ) and told I am not able to cancel the account until documents are generated in the coming days, leaving me unable to close an account I never wanted to open in the first place. I expressed my concern to the employee, XXXX ( employee # XXXX ) who reiterated and confirmed she wouldn't close the account.
