Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer
Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled
Consumer Complaint: While enrolled in college, my daughter took out two private loans from a lender to cover personal living expenses ; I am a co-signer on one of those loans. Following graduation in XX/XX/2018, she began a one year assignment as an XXXX XXXX volunteer. The lender would not grant her a deferment for that service, so her repayments were scheduled to begin in XXXX or XX/XX/2018. In late XXXX, we reached an agreement with the lender to begin automated payments ( including catch-up amounts ) in XX/XX/2018. As she had not found full-time employment ( and still has not ), I agreed to have payments deducted from my checking account. Payments were timely made in XXXX, XXXX, XXXX and XXXX. However, the lender may have misapplied one of the XXXX payments as I began receiving notices of past due amounts on the loan for which I co-signed. After working through this with a representative from the lender 's call center and providing them with bank documentation, I received a letter stating that the payment was reapplied to the correct account. However, the lender is still claiming the account is past due, even though all payments have been made, and are demanding payment for the alleged past due amount.

Issue: Closing your account
Subissue: Company closed your account
Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2020 I paid my account down to a {$0.00} Balance. The account was a secured card account. On XX/XX/2020 I received a notice from XXXX that Discover wanted me to consent to receive information from the IRS to verify information on my secured credit card account. The notice from XXXX claims that my account with Discover Card would be closed in 14 days if I did not consent to the request to fill out IRS form 4506-T. I complied and filled out the form. I then attempted to use my card and it was blocked by Discover, I was not informed of this until I called them. I was informed that I had to wait up to 10 business days for the IRS to get back to Discover Card Before I could use my card. I was then blocked from accessing the account online. I needed a letter from Discover to give to my mortgage lender to confirm that the account was in fact paid to {$0.00} and Discover claimed that they were unable to provide me any information on the account until the IRS issues were resolved. Then after a second call to them and speaking with a manager I was told that they had to get a special department to lift the block temporarily so that a letter could be sent to me for my mortgage company. Then at XXXX XXXX on XX/XX/2020 I received an email from Discover that my account was closed because they were unable to verify information on my account. I called them and they blatantly refused to give me any information and specifically stated that the letter is the most information they can provide to me and they would not under any circumstances tel me what reasons or why specifically my account was closed. They denied me the secured credit card that I had for a few months and did not want to provide a reason. They promised to tell the credit reporting agencies that the account had been closed. I feel they discriminated and that their action amount to a sabotage of my credit rating that I diligently worked hard to obtain and they held the account from me with a {$700.00} secured deposit for reasons that they refused to tell me. Their actions are unfair, unreasonable and repulsive.

Consumer Complaint: Discover Card reported I was late 30 days in XX/XX/2019 and XX/XX/2019. The late payments did not occur in XX/XX/2019 according to a representative but in XXXX. I reported that I had to change my bank account information due to theft of my check book. A few attempts were made y discover to pull out payment from the old account and payments were returned. Discover card policy states I have 60 days before late payments are reported to the credit bureaus. MY payment was received on the 60th day In which it was reported. I spoke to a representative and was told I actually have 59 days. This is not clearly indicated by Discover Card to its consumers.
