Issue: Problem with a purchase shown on your statement

Subissue: Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement

Consumer Complaint: 1 ) My family booked a trip to trip to XXXX and XXXX from XX/XX/20 to XX/XX/20. It was at a beautiful XXXX XXXX that I have stayed at before. 2 ) I purchased this trip with a {$500.00} deposit and a {$6800.00} final payment for a total of {$7300.00}. 3 ) The resort closed down due to Covid and I was unable to travel. Note I did not cancel the trip, the resort closed. I have submitted proof of their closing down. 4 ) XXXX would not respond to my emails or phone calls, ( see attached ). When I did not get a reply, I disputed the charge with my Discover Card. 5 ) I initially received a temporary credit, but then Discover said they found in the merchants favor. My calls to Discover card have fallen on deaf ears. I tried to explain to them, that I did not cancel the trip and I wanted to go on the trip. This situation is almost comical, how can I be charged by a merchant who canceled on me??? Please help. {$7300.00} is a lot of money. Sincerely, XXXX XXXX XXXX

Issue: Applying for a mortgage or refinancing an existing mortgage

Subissue:

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX ( XXXX ) we submitted an application with Discover Home Loans to request a Home Equity Loan. Our credit was pulled and we met the first criteria. I spoke to their Personal banker on/around XX/XX/XXXX and discussed how much our home was worth to ensure we qualified for enough equity in our home. After discussing this with the banker, we went forward with the application and submitted all documentation online. On XX/XX/XXXX, an appraiser came to our home and took pictures of the outside of our home while my husband was standing outside. A week passed and I received word our home was valued {$220000.00}. Approximately {$30000.00} less than the same home up the street from ours which was on the market for {$240000.00}. I asked Discover how this was possible and they informed me it was a brick and mortar appraisal. However, this was not noted to me in the beginning of the conversation in speaking with the personal banker on XX/XX/XXXX. Discover updated our status within their system to requesting an internal appraisal ; however, the next day ( XX/XX/XXXX ) I received an email from Discover that our application was denied. I'm beyond confused on how this is possible and the ONLY thing I can understand or comprehend is that it had to do with our race. I am XXXX and handled all communication with Discover. However, my husband who is XXXX XXXX ( and standing outside with the appraiser ) was the one who greeted the appraiser. It seems just a bit odd that our credit score of over 740, good credit history, over {$70000.00} in equity, military income with 2 full-time employment salaries could receive a " no '' on the application and a low ball appraisal. I have reached out to Discover to file a complaint and have not heard back. In addition, I've reached out to our Attorney General and lastly would like to file a complaint with your office as well.

Consumer Complaint: I am a co-signer on my daughter 's student loan with Discover. She was trying in good faith to repay her loan. She has several loans with Discover and all in good standing except one. The one she had been communicating with them about, was in forbearance status and she was trying to avoid a Charge Off status and collections. She paid a large sum to show good faith and per conversations with Discover would avoid charge off. she continued to auto pay the loan at a level she could afford. She has arranged to repay the loan and is on a payment plan, but they will not remove charge off status. She has diligently placed her other loans with Discover on auto payment and is making regular monthly payments. She is trying hard to stay on top of repayment and is now in a position to consistently repay her loans. The interest rates are high due to her credit rating and the amortization periods short causing larger payments she is trying to fix her credit rating and it is making progress so that she can refinance to a better rate, longer repayment schedule, and lower monthly payments. But now with the charge off status, her credit is not eligible for refinance with many lenders. We feel Discover has misled us and she has tried her best to repay the loan they indicated was in forbearance. We would like them to reconsider the charge off status and allow us to continue to repay the loan.

Consumer Complaint: Discover filed a 1099-C in XX/XX/2020 on a debt previously owed. That debt was included into this years tax return. Discover is still reporting the account as if it has a balance, and if I could pay on it. While on the phone with Discover on XX/XX/2020 around XXXX I spoke with XXXX who said that she was working in an apartment with 10 others which is why she had a bad attitude,. XXXX then also attempted to collect on the debt that Discover had previously filed a 1099c on. Asking me if I would like to pay the full balance of {$700.00}, that was already written off. Discover is using predatory tactics, and illegal tactics.
