Consumer Complaint: I have been contacted regarding an account for a debt that is not mine by XXXX, representing Jefferson Capital for an account associated with XXXX. This account is not mine. When I informed the representatives that the debt was not valid and in the process of repeated attempts to get verification of the debt, XXXX/ Jefferson Capital committed the following violations of fair debt collection practices : 1. Representatives from Jefferson Capital, XXXX, or XXXX contacting my family members ( I am assuming you got this information from social media ) attempting to reach " XXXX regarding a business matter '' for a debt that is over XXXX XXXX XXXX. - When I returned their call with my daughter, a lawyer, on line and she requested verification of the debt and an end to the calls, we were given a fake name for the person they were looking for regarding this account ( XXXX ). 2. Calls to my cell phone regarding this account where, after I denied the account was valid, I was told that they would serve me papers at work, at home, " or wherever '' by the district court which was an implicit threat to sue me on a debt that is not only not mine, but well past the statute of limitations for debt collection lawsuits. 3. Representatives from XXXX repeatedly refusing to provide account information to my authorized legal representative despite my giving verbal authorization for such communication and be being on the phone line during the conversation. - XXXX also repeatedly denied being in possession of the account to my authorized legal representative despite sending me requests for payments. - Requests for verification of this debt were repeatedly denied to my authorized legal representative with XXXX insisting they did not have the account despite having sent me a bill and attempting to call me regarding this account that same day! 4. Reporting of a debt that is over XXXX XXXX XXXX to the credit bureaus. - This needs to be removed immediately as this is not a valid debt. - This needs to be removed immediately as this debt is over XXXX XXXX XXXX. These issues will be reported to the consumer finance protection bureau. Any further

Consumer Complaint: Jefferson Capital called my work place and discussed my personal matter to an employee there. The person on the phone from Jefferson Capital told the employee that its a personal matter of Debt owed and that I must get on the phone. The person on the other line was threatening and extremely aggressive with my co-worker. I was out to lunch and my co-worker was just trying to take a message. This company would n't give them a call back number or anyone to reach them, they said that they would call back. Jefferson Capital seems like they are part of a scam that bullies people into paying them for debt they do n't have.

Consumer Complaint: This company is attempting to collect a debt that is beyond the statute of limitations for a lawsuit, 4 years in California, and reporting the account beyond the 7 year limit for credit reporting. I have written to this collection agent asking for verification of this debt to establish these dates and also to establish that the agent actually either owns the debt or is acting on behalf of the original creditor. When I telephone the collection agent about this, an agent asks for payment and tacitly implies that that the debt is not beyond the statute of limitations and that it is empowered to take " further action '' on this zombie debt, when such is not the case. After disputing the information in the credit bureau, this collection agent 'verified ' the information that it was reporting as being correct. Yet when I subsequently telephoned the collection agent I was told that it had received my request stated above and that it was 'investigating ' but that it had no information on the account and had to retrieve information from the original creditor which 'takes up to 30 days '. I confirmed that my dispute was received by the collection agent PRIOR to the time the collection agent responded to the credit bureaus that the debt was reporting correctly ... a violation of the FCRA. Moreover, the collection agent failed to mark the debt as 'disputed ' in the credit bureau ... another violation of the FCRA .
