Subissue: Didn't receive enough information to verify debt
Consumer Complaint: My husband XXXX and became XXXX, making me unable to make payments. I asked for XXXX protection as well as asked about the XXXX XXXX XXXX. I inquired about the XXXX credit protection in place, as part of a payment. The company refused to look into any provisions in place for a military members family. This debt collection company has now bought the debt and has not validated it nor looked into these protections on the original account. They continue to report a negative balance of {$490.00}, despite me disputing and the ability to provide documentation. This is a shame to military members who become XXXX serving their country and debt buyers as such are the bottom of the barrel.

Consumer Complaint: Earlier this year, I received a call from someone asking if I could verify myself, I refused so they said they were unable to assist me. I then received another call asking me to verify myself again, I then asked them to verify who I was since they were calling me. I was then told that if I do not verify who I am that they are unable to assist me. About month or so later ( I believe XX/XX/2019 ) I noticed a new negative account on my credit report. So, I was never advised that this was an attempt to collect a debt, nor was I advised that I could dispute this debt, nor was I offered any verification of this debt. I still have this debt on my credit report LISTED TWICE FROM TWO DIFFERENT DEBTORS as if there is more than one account in question. However, I have not authorized any chargers nor have I signed any credit agreements for the credit card debt in question.

Consumer Complaint: Jefferson Capital is a debt purchaser. Initially they had two amounts reporting as delinquent on my credit report from XXXX: $XXXX and $XXXX for the same date. I filed an official dispute; the results said the debt was verified as accurate but that is incorrect. I contacted Jefferson and spoke to XXXX—op #XXXX. She said the $XXXX would automatically be removed but I had to speak to a second operator for the other amount. I spoke to XXXX—op #XXXX. She referred me to Supervisor XXXX XXXX who said the other charge would be removed and updated on my credit report within 30 days. I told him the erroneous charge had prevented me from obtaining a mortgage to purchase a home and I wanted it in writing that the fake debt was removed. I just got an update on my report. Instead of the bogus debt being removed, another late payment has been falsely reported. I was on a payment assistant program through XXXX XXXX for XXXX. The account was reconciled every quarter and I was notified of my portion still owing. I paid the bill and even included a screenshot of my bank account substantiating the payment had been made. I did inform Mr XXXX that I would report the fraudulent charges to the Attorney General if they weren’t promptly removed.
