Subissue: Company closed your account
Consumer Complaint: I opened a checking account with Citibank on XX/XX/XXXX, but Citibank suddenly closed my account today for no reason and without providing any notice. When I called customer service to provide details, they refused. I did not perform any transactions that would warrant closure. The only transactions were to fund the account to the amount of {$450.00} on XX/XX/XXXX, {$100.00} on XX/XX/XXXX, and {$100000.00} today on XX/XX/XXXX, all of which is now owed to me immediately. It is absolutely crazy that they would transfer those funds today only to then close it and steal my funds. I need these funds back ASAP. It is completely unacceptable that Citibank can hold these funds hostage, without any details as to when they will be returned. Time is money and I need these stolen funds back ASAP.

Issue: Getting a credit card
Subissue: Card opened as result of identity theft or fraud
Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX, I received an email that said I had a credit card on the way from Best Buy XXXX. Looking further into email, I found a duplicate receipt was emailed to me on XX/XX/XXXX with a purchase of an XXXX XXXX and an XXXX XXXX, totaling {$1700.00}. As I didn't initiate this credit card application, nor did I make those purchases, I called Best Buy Credit on XX/XX/XXXX to open a case. As it was the weekend, all they could do was close the account, but couldn't put me in contact with their security operations department to open a case. I called again later in the week and answered some questions they asked me to initiate the case. They told me it could take up to 90 days to complete the investigation. Shortly thereafter, I received the credit card in the mail. Meanwhile, I also filed a complaint with my local police department, XXXX XXXX police XXXX XXXX XXXX was updated with this fraudulent account ( as this was the second account opened fraudulently within a week, and I had already opened a complaint with them for the first. XXXX on the first XXXX is under CFPB Complaint ID XXXX. ) I also put a credit freeze with all XXXX credit bureaus at this time. I just called Best Buy XXXX for an update, and they said this is still under investigation.

Issue: Getting a credit card
Subissue: Application denied
Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX, I submitted an application for the Citi XXXX XXXX, but it was rejected due to my XXXX bankruptcy. Seeking assistance, I contacted an application advisor at XXXX. I explained that according to the Fair Credit Reporting Act ( FCRA ), banking institutions can not decline applications based on bankruptcy after 4 years from discharge. The advisor reviewed my credit report, acknowledging that my bankruptcy had been discharged for 4 years, and recommended I reapply after XX/XX/XXXX. They believed there was a good chance for approval since I had built credit post-bankruptcy. Following their guidance, I reapplied on XX/XX/XXXX, only to face the same rejection due to bankruptcy. Frustrated, I contacted another application advisor that same day. This advisor contradicted the previous information, stating that bankruptcy could still be a reason for denial for up to 7 years. I contested this, referring to the FCRA. I asked them to reevaluate my application, prompting them to escalate the matter to the ER department for review. They assured me of a response within 15 days.

In XXXX 2023, I initiated a dispute for this additional charge since XXXX customer service indicated it would be up to the host to provide a refund, but by this time I had closed my XXXX account. I immediately filed a rebuttal on XXXX XXXX, but have not received a related dispoition.

Consumer Complaint: Some relevant facts : ( 1 ) Transaction was made in IDR XXXX on my Citi Premier Card XX/XX/2023 XXXX XXXX XXXX ; ( 2 ) The transaction was posted in my Citi account on XX/XX/XXXX for USD XXXX ( i.e., XXXX IDR/USD ) ; ( 3 ) Citi Premier Card is on the Mastercard network with 0 % foreign transaction fee ; ( 4 ) According to the Mastercard currency converter calculator XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX my transaction on XX/XX/XXXX should only cost me USD XXXX ( USD XXXX lower ). I contacted their customer service, and they said that Citi uses the XXXX XXXX XXXX ( odd! ) for their conversion rate. Using that rate ( for XX/XX/XXXX ), it should be {$75.00} lower, and they suggested I should file a dispute. I filed the dispute on XX/XX/XXXX and received a dispute letter on XX/XX/XXXX rejecting my {$75.00} claim. The letter then said that the exchange rate used to convert is established by " either Mastercard International, Visa International or XXXX XXXX '' ( surprise surprise ). I have requested that my dispute be reopened but am pessimistic.
