Issue: Struggling to pay your bill
Subissue: Credit card company won't work with you while you're going through financial hardship
Consumer Complaint: I am writing to file a formal complaint against Capital One regarding their lack of support and unwillingness to provide financial hardship assistance for my Capital One Quicksilver Card. I have been facing significant financial difficulties, making it increasingly challenging for me to meet my financial obligations, particularly in paying my bills. I have been a loyal customer of Capital One for over 10 years and have always made my credit card payments on time. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, I have encountered a series of financial setbacks recently that have severely impacted my ability to maintain a stable income and meet my financial obligations. As a result, my monthly income has decreased significantly, making it difficult for me to cover even my basic living expenses, let alone my credit card payments. I frequently contacted Capital One 's customer support team to ask about possible options for financial hardship aid because I was aware of the seriousness of my situation. I was shocked to find the individual I interacted with to be unhelpful and uncaring about my situation. Despite my explanation of my financial problems, they offered no workable alternatives or support to help me get through this difficult time. I requested information regarding potential programs or options available to customers experiencing financial hardship, such as a temporary reduction in interest rates, a payment plan, or an extension on payment due dates. Unfortunately, the representative informed me that no such assistance was available and suggested that I should continue making minimum payments or face the consequences of late fees and possible damage to my credit score. I find this lack of consideration and understanding from Capital One deeply concerning. The company 's refusal to provide any form of financial hardship assistance leaves me feeling abandoned and disregarded as a loyal customer during my time of need. I have always prioritized meeting my financial obligations and maintaining a good credit history, and it is disheartening to be treated with such disregard when I require assistance the most. I kindly request the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to investigate this matter thoroughly and ensure that Capital One adheres to its responsibilities and obligations as a credit card issuer. I believe that credit card companies should be obligated to work with their customers during periods of financial hardship, providing reasonable options and assistance to help individuals overcome temporary financial difficulties.

Subissue: Problem with rewards from credit card
Consumer Complaint: CapitalOne SavorOne card is supposed to come with an early spend reward : Earn a one-time {$200.00} cash bonus once you spend {$500.00} on purchases within the first 3 months from account opening. XXXX XXXX XXXX I applied for this credit card when this was offered and used it according to the terms. I did not get the reward amount that was promised. Upon further investigation, it seems that the {$200.00} offer did not apply to my account. The {$200.00} offer did not appear in my credit card information sheet that I got after the card has been approved. The representative over the phone was not able to identify the reason for this. There was no indicator that could be used to determine how this offer disappeared. I find CapitalOne 's application process to be extremely misleading, because at no point in the application process am I supposed to believe that the {$200.00} cash bonus is not applied to all SavorOne cards. I could only possibly be aware of this after the card has been approved. Reasons for this could range from discrimination to false advertising or tactics like bait-and-switch.

Issue: Getting a credit card
Subissue: Card opened as result of identity theft or fraud
Consumer Complaint: Monday I called Capital One to explain that a credit card had been opened and approved with my social security number, and that it was totally fraudulent. I gave them my social security and full name. I was told the card had been approved, a business card for a company called XXXX XXXX. I told them that it wasn't me to please cancel it. I was told to call back in 7 days, I called back in four days to be told that they had mailed the card out already. At first they thought they were talking to the scammers and calling it MY ACCOUNT. I had to explain again, what was happening, even after spending over an hour on phone with them on Monday XX/XX/XXXX. I have life lock and they notified me and stayed with me on the line the entire time. I am now being told the fraudulent card is put on hold and they won't be able to purchase. I had beg Capital One again to PLEASE not let them use this card. I am a victim of Identity Theft, I asked for this card to be closed, Capital One did not take action.

Consumer Complaint: I was making a payment on my card after a payroll issue had delayed my paycheck when I notice there was a restriction on all of my credit cards. I called to find out what was going on with my accounts. When I spoke with a specialist they informed me that my cards had been closed and when I asked why they stated that is was a banking policy of returned payments & when I stated that I didn't have that issue, they checked & confirmed that I was corrected. I also stated that this policy is nowhere in the paperwork that I received with the card, nowhere on Capital One 's website and that this was the first that I had heard of this policy nor was there any paperwork signed acknowledging this policy.
