Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/10, I decided to apply for the Discover it Cash Back credit card. Before I submitted my application, there were two items required in order for me to submit my application successfully. First, the front and back of my driver 's license and secondly, my social security card. The website advised that it was to confirm my identity which is ridiculous especially at a time when data breaches are occurring more frequently. I did not feel comfortable uploading those items and discontinued the application process. I did not submit my application successfully therefore a hard pull of my XXXX credit file was not warranted. Discover Financial should have done a soft pull and once I submitted my application, a hard pull. With all due respect, my score dropped 10 points due to their hard inquiry. I did not even receive any confirmation from Discover Financial that my application was even received so I believe this was an error on their end. I emailed their executive office XXXX. I immediately advised that I was no longer interested in applying for their credit card and that I did not submit my application to them for processing. The next day, I received an email from their customer service department advising that my application was still pending. After further research, many consumers that have tried to apply for their Discover It credit card have complained about the same thing : they request a copy of their social security card to be sent to them to confirm citizenship disguised as identity. Their tactics are appalling and I have reported them to the XXXX as well. I did not submit my application to Discover Financial because I did not think it was safe to submit my social security card out of fear that it would be compromised and discontinued the application process. No other creditor has ever requested for me to send them a copy of my social security card to apply for credit. They had no right to pull my credit report since I did not finish their application process online. To add insult to injury, no one from their executive team has had the courtesy to reply to any of my emails. Furthermore, I think that XXXX is also at fault because they allowed them to pull my credit report in the first place. I will never apply for any other credit card that XXXX recommends since they receive a commission for each applicant. I have contacted XXXX and have received no assistance there either.

Consumer Complaint: Discover It credit card advertisements indicate a 5 % cash back on gas purchases, restaurants, travel and more. When you fill out their application ( which requires ones Social Security number by the way ) and the switched, actual terms are reveled it is heavily restricted by month to certain retailers. This is blatant bait and switch.

Consumer Complaint: In XXXX I contacted Discover credit card because I was laid off of work and asked if it was anything they could do to assist me with my credit card payments. The informed me they could lower my interest rate which would decrease my payments to {$120.00} for 6-months. Once I returned to work, I contacted them and ask if I could come off the plan because I needed to use the card to put gas in the car and for expense until I obtained a check to get back and forth to work. At that time I was informed that I could come off the plan but would not be allowed to use my card, as of today I am still not allowed to use my card. Not at any time was I told that if I got on that plan my credit card spending privileges ' would be suspended once I returned back and I would not be able to use my card. I explained to them that I was never informed of that and I would've never went on that plan if that was the outcome. The agent did not explain that to me when she enrolled me on the plan.

Consumer Complaint: My granddaughter secured a private student loan from Discover in XXXX in the amount of {$12000.00}. I am her grandmother and a co-signer. In the spring of XXXX, we started paying back the loan in the amount of {$130.00} monthly. My granddaughter does not make payments in time however, Discover does not charge late fees. I have got her up-to-date a few times but this week, I got a payment stub and began looking at the entire loan history. Loan was for {$12000.00} ; says total paid has been {$6100.00} ; total principal amount is {$2200.00} ; current balance is {$11000.00}. That reflects a decrease of only {$500.00}. How are we ever going to pay off this loan if in a approx. 4 year period, only {$500.00} has ACTUALLY been applied to the principal? I have tried to get Discover to explain how payments are applied but get no satisfaction. I think they are charging interest upon deferred interest upon daily interest, etc. I need to know if what they are doing is perfectly legal and how my granddaughter can get this loan paid off knowing that only pennies are going to decrease the loan amount.

Consumer Complaint: I am being charged late fees that I should not have accrued because I called in to cancel the card before those late fees were assessed. I am now attempting to resolve the issue with the company, and they are telling me that this will not come off of my credit report no matter what type of arrangement we set up.

Consumer Complaint: About 14 years ago I was the victim of identity theft. Someone was using my accounts & information to make purchases with my credit card. I contacted discover and the credit bureaus. All of the charges that I did not make were deemed fraudulent and removed from my credit report. I have made numerous calls to discover through the years and thought this situation was taken care of but 10 plus years later I found out, it is not. Last month, I spoke with a very kind & helpful Discover representative who informed me that in 2014 Discover had reviewed my file again and decided that I was responsible for the fraudulent charges. I recently received a court notice saying my wages were going to be garnished. I have talked to the attorneys from XXXX XXXX XXXX numerous times and Discover card and explained my situation to them and specifically told them that I did not make those charges. Their response was that they could not do anything about that and said I had to contact Discover. Discover is now garnishing my wages for over {$11000.00} in fraudulent charges that I did NOT make !
