Issue: Managing the loan or lease
Subissue: Billing problem
Consumer Complaint: My interest rate for my auto loan is 6.45 % APR. The loan amount was XXXX and was scheduled as a 72 month auto loan. Correct me if I'm wrong but the more you pay towards the principle the less they are suppose to be taking for interest and the amounts they are taking for interest are not consistent whatsoever with what I have paid. I've enclosed some dated screenshots of a few payments I've made and also the amount of interest they have charged me. I get nowhere trying to talk to anyone with capital one about this issue. I get put on hold for long periods of time just to be hung up on in the end. On XX/XX/2023 I called capital one bank and spoke with XXXX on a transaction made on XX/XX/2023 to capital one auto finance in the amount of {$430.00} that posted on XX/XX/2023. And I was put on hold while she went over my account. Upon her return I I told her that I have a conformation number she ask me for it. Then put me on hold again to speak with her supervisor. She came back and informed me that the payment with conformation number doesn't show in my account. And she wasn't sure why it wasn't showing. Also at one point I was well over a year ahead on my payments.

Issue: Getting a loan or lease
Subissue: Confusing or misleading advertising or marketing
Consumer Complaint: Capital one keeps sending me false advertisements of pre approval. They pulled a soft inquiry on my credit report to gather the info. Then send me multiple advertisements saying ive done been approved for a loan between XXXX and XXXX dollars. Then when ya wan na see what the amount is. They tell you that you havent been and there is no amount ir pre approval. The flyer doesnt say i could be approved, it specifically states ive already been approved. But thats a lie. Also ive told them several times to not contact me. I went through the opt out procedure and sent a cease and desist letter. Theyve ignored it. I am not a customer nor do i have dealings with them or their affiliates. This advertising is a lie and completely false. The only parameter i matched was living within XXXX miles of the dealership which they said was all they required. There was no preapproval or even an attempt to see. Nothing on this flyer leads to the thought that i am not approved. It actually tells me verbatim " you got the green light to purchase the vehicle you want with preapproved auto financing ranging from {$4000.00} to {$55000.00} through capital one '' and i receive this offer weekly for various dealerships. This is a lie and blatantly false. This type of advertising has negative consequences as most actually are not going to be approved at all and then the dealerships going to run multiple inquiries on the report causing a drop in credit score all because the consumer was told and led to believe they are approved. Its dirty and false and needs to be stopped.

Issue: Opening an account
Subissue: Account opened as a result of fraud
Consumer Complaint: I received an email on XX/XX/XXXX, from Capital One, signifying that someone had updated my phone number with the company. I looked at this as a potential scam or phishing because I have never done business with or worked with Capital One. I received another email on the XX/XX/XXXX, notifying me of a newly created checking account with Capital One 360 checking. Again, I never have done business with Capital One or created any accounts myself with them. I called Capital One the XX/XX/XXXX and asked if there was an account in my name. They found an account was opened on XX/XX/XXXX ( that I did not create ). I asked them to close it and provide me the creator 's identity or the details of the creation of the account. They told me that it would take XXXX business days. I never heard anything. I called today, XX/XX/XXXX to confirm that the account was closed and was told that they can not give me any information due to privacy and security restrictions. I explained to them that this is not what was originally told to me and this is my identity that has been stolen. I need to find out who created my account and to take legal action against that party. I have a right to know that information, being as I am the victim. After researching online, I am not the only victim of this situation. There is a reoccurring theme of Capital On opening fraudulent accounts.

Consumer Complaint: The issues are with CapitalOne. - I requested CapitalOne to update my Social Security Number. They havent been able to do that since I first submitted the request on XXXX XXXX until today, XXXX XXXX. However, they denied my access to my information on my account for about 10 days now, so I cant see any information, cant pay for my balance either. That is after ten of hours of calls, talking to about 20 staff from CapitalOne ( credit, saving, customer service, technical support, fraud, customer protection, ID verification depts ), submitted the same documents no less than 4 times by fax, email, and upload to secured links. Every time I sent, I called them to make sure they received the docs, I would have confirmation they already received them, however, no update, and at the next call, another staff would tell me to submit all the docs again. - I also received an email from CapitalOne asking for my citizenship and threaten to close my account if I couldn't go to one of their branches to submit the exact same documents that i already shared ( and they already received according to confirmation from multiple staff on phone ), together with paperwork showing my citizenship, even though there is no branches of CapitalOne where I live. The email was from Customer Service and is not a No-reply one as there's no info saying " Dont reply to this email '', however, when I answered the email, theres no reply. - I received another email saying CapitalOne cant update my info with No explanation and tell me to call a number so I understand. I called the number, noone knew about my case, noone gave my an explanation. - Today is XXXX XXXX. I would have to pay for credit balance by XXXX every month to avoid penalty from CapitalOne. I asked multiple staff from Credit department on phone what if CapitalOne charged my unpaid balance because I couldnt pay as they themselves deny my access to my information, instead of answering my question, Credit card department and Technical support department have been passing me between them multiple times saying the other dept have to solve it. * My phone stores only 100 most recent calls, so only from XXXX XXXX as of today but I had multiple calls before that.

Subissue: Account information incorrect
Consumer Complaint: Hello, I am a cosigner on a loan for a vehicle for my mother. My mother XXXX had missed a bunch of payments and beginning of last year she filed for bankruptcy. She included the vehicle in the bankruptcy. XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX then removed the vehicle and its balances from our credit. Then a few months later re added the account with a past due balance of {$110000.00}. The vehicle original loan amount was {$20000.00}. It is impossible for the past due to be XXXX dollars. I have filed multiple disputes and they keep coming back stating the information is verified and correct. I have a signed document from Capital Ones lawyer from the bankruptcy hearing stating that the amount owed is {$14000.00}. When i call Capital One and ask where on my account it shows I owe {$110000.00} and I have a recorded phone of the rep stating I do not owe them anything near {$110000.00}. The rep also states that they are not reporting to my credit which is false as it shows on all XXXX credit bureau. They are also reporting different amount on the credit report. XXXX and XXXX show {$110000.00} and XXXX only shows {$60000.00}. I have tried again and again to have them fix this mistake and they will not. This is hurting my life severely as I'm in the process of trying to buy a house which I am being denied for due to have a debt of {$110000.00}.

Issue: Getting a credit card
Subissue: Application denied
Consumer Complaint: Capital One said they could not find any information at the credit bureaus and therefore could not make a decision so they denied me credit. The problem with this is that a credit report does exist, XXXX XXXX said I had a good chance at receiving this card, yet XXXX XXXX continues their financial slavery, XXXX me commercially, XXXX me financially to the point I can not obtain my constitutional rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Capital one 's reason to denial of credit is inconclusive and really does not define the real reason for denying credit. How can I live if I can not find a place because I am denied credit? How can I live if I have no utilities because I am denied credit?

Issue: Trouble using your card
Subissue: Can't use card to make purchases
Consumer Complaint: I am a holder of an XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXX that is managed by Capital One. Recently, I traveled to XXXX, and to my frustration, my credit card was blocked. Despite multiple attempts to contact customer service, I have been unable to unblock the card, as they continue to request the same document repeatedly without providing any resolution. On XX/XX/2023, I received an email ( see Figure-1 ) from Capital One requesting that I upload my federal driver 's license to unblock my credit card. However, the email contained only broken links ( as shown in Figure -2 ), making it difficult to upload the necessary documents. Even when the links worked, I was often directed to a page ( Figure -3 ) with no clear options for uploading documents. Despite several frustrating sessions with customer service representatives from Capital One, they refused to acknowledge that the links were broken, and I was unable to provide them with a screenshot of the broken link page. Finally, after several unsuccessful attempts to upload the necessary document, customer service provided me with the option of physically mailing the document to a location in Utah. I sent the document as instructed and hoped that the issue would be resolved soon. However, when I contacted Capital One again, I was informed that the document I provided was blurry. I expressed my displeasure with this response and requested an email address to which I could send the same copy to prove that it was not blurry. However, they refused my request, leaving me feeling increasingly frustrated. Unfortunately, when I followed up with the customer service representative a week later, I was informed that the previously mailed physical document was rejected, not due to blurriness, but because it was black and white. However, I can confirm that the document I submitted via mail was a color copy of my driver 's license, and it appears that the document was converted to black and white by the Capital One system. This also proved that there is no clear process in place at Capital One for vetting the documents. As of now, my card has been blocked for two months, causing missed payments and significant inconvenience. I have been instructed to mail the document to Capital One again, but I have little confidence that the issue will be resolved, as it appears that they will continue to repeat the same flawed process. I am submitting this complaint to bring this matter to the attention of the relevant parties and to request a prompt resolution to this minor yet persistent problem.
