There are quite a few free services provided by the government as well as private organizations and charities. We will cover just a few here, but there are a lot of options to help with your unique situation. If one here does not cover it, do not be disheartened, try searching more, we are but one source :)


THe National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC)
They offer, well as the name suggests, help with credit and credit literacy. This includes help managing debt, increasing your credit score, and asssisting in general financial planning.
Financial Literacy and Education Commission (FLEC)
Much like the NFCC, their goal is financial literacy. They can be found at MyMoney.gov which has an array of tools to help with budgeting, planning, and investing when possible.
Public Interest Research Groups (PIRGs)
PIRGs is a national group which is a combination of state-based groups to help you with more local issues. As each state has differences in laws, they can help you navigate your state's particular systems to aid in the best posssible outcome for your situation.
Legal Services Corporation (LSC) Being intimidated by these mega corporations or debt collectors? The LSC helps lower income American against these leeches. They offer assistance with predatory lending, bankruptcy, and similar issues.
Federal Trade Commission (FTC)
The FTC, when run by people who care (AKA: Not Ajit Pai), enforces laws meant to protect consumers from fraudlent fees and other unfair business practices. You can learn a lot from their website and assistance about your rights as a citizen.

Annual Credit Report provides you with one totally free credit report per year. This can help you keep an eye on what is going on with your credit while not being deceived into paying equifax, experian, or transunion.
